I honestly believe he is a great fit for us. Provides insurance to Terminator and can block and receive at TE. I believe if he's on the block the Jets should get him. The Washington Post believes Chris Cooley could be traded, but not "outright cut." Cooley is due a burdensome $3.8 million for a backup, but has taken consistent reps at fullback this preseason. Nevertheless, if Cooley isn't "outright cut," it will almost certainly be because he's agreed to a sizable pay cut. It's a good sign he made it past first cuts on Monday. No one is going to trade for him.
If the Jets were sold on Baker in the H-back position this season, I'd take Cooley as a replacement in a minute, even with his injury history.
I agree, he'd be a perfect fit -- our TE depth is obviously garbage, and Sanchez could really use a safety valve coming out of the backfield (since Greene is less than inspiring as a receiver.) I wouldn't trade for him because of that salary, but I'd make an aggressive push to sign him if he's cut.
I'd love to see him here as well, but I wouldn't want to give up any picks for him. If the Redskins cut Cooley - which is still a possibility - I would like the Jets to make a run at him.
Same here, I wouldn't give anything up for him, especially to Washington. He'd have to be released for me to be happy about that. We've already trashed too many DPs to give something up for a depth TE/HB type who was on IR the season before.
If he is cut that means he didn't restructure with the Skins. He will then likely clear waivers because no one is picking up 3.8 MIL in salary and he would be a free agent. What would you pay him?
He doesn't stink, but he is a complementary player that ended 2011 on Injured Reserve. What part about that is confusing to you?
I watched that game casually (wasn't glued to the TV) but didn't hear anything about an injury, and just read a report that he didn't show at practice yesterday, reporting to Shanahan that 'he didn't feel well'. Whatever that means. No reports about injury, though. I'd still kick his tires if he's cut.
Chris Cooley has been released. TANNY!! SIGN HIM NOW! Redskins released TE Chris Cooley. Coach Mike Shanahan suggested Cooley requested his release because the nine-year veteran wants a starting job. It's likely a moot point, however. Due nearly $4 million as a backup tight end/fullback, Cooley was squarely on the roster bubble heading into cut-down weekend. A major injury question mark coming off a season ruined by knee problems, Cooley is unlikely to accrue reliable fantasy value no matter where he lands.
Released means he is a free agent. No waivers required. He can be had for whatever Mike T wants to pay. Personally, I'm lukewarm on him.

He shouldn't demand too much considering he is coming off a major injury. I would definitely like this move. Goes right with the new Tanny, low risk high reward.
