The Cards have announced that Chris Carpenter will be having elbow surgery and will be out for at least three months. I didn't give them much of a chance of being very good this year anyway, but between this and the off-the-field problems, it's looking more and more likely that they are just going to fall off the table this year. http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/10167915
With or without Carpenter I think they were pretty much finished this season. Their lineup is an absolute mess, the only guys with OPS over .700 are Pujols, Duncan and Kip Wells. And their pitching staff is being held together by Braden Looper. They're just a lousy team.
