Anyone been there yet? I'm taking a trip up to Hofstra in a couple of days and wanted to know how the place is.
Guess hes to busy with the horse racing now. The dude lives in Colts neck and had a restraunt in LI. It made no sense anyhow.
These athlete-restaurants usually are only the athlete's by name, and partial ownership. I doubt Wayne had much more than an investment in it, where his name and memorabilia was part of the deal. Remember the old "LT's" on Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights? How much of it do you think was run by Lawrence Taylor? LOL. My guess is that Wayne was one of many owners and his financial stake may not have been that much - at least I hope not for his sake. I really don't know though - just guessing. Too bad it's failed. They got screwed once the team bolted for Jersey.
Gotta be honest, I didn't like this place too much when I went there. Interior was nothing special, aside from Chrebet's memorabilia, food was overpriced and the beer was flat. The Guinness my friend ordered had no head on it, neither did my Smithwick's. The only plus was the hot bartender.
I used to manage a sports bar in NJ. The owners were in negotiations with Carl Banks, in hopes of getting him to put his name on the place. He came in a few times and seemed like the nicest guy, but he was not into being that involved in the daily operations. He even joked about wanting to have his own place because LT had his. They were very close to reaching a deal, but the place was shut down before Carl Banks could save it. I am fairly certain most of these restaurants are owned by athletes in name only.
Unless the food is good, most people won't over pay for these type of restaurants. I remember looking on line at Chrebet's menu. What was it, 18 bucks for a hamburger? Never did bother to go there. Now, Mantle's in NYC lasted because he was an immortal but the food was good, even if a bit over priced by Manhattan standards. Every time I went there I saw famous sports personalities. Players, coaches, reporters, writers. Rusty Staub's place lasted because the ribs were fabulous and he was there most of the time. 18 dollar burgers and a name... doesn't get it done in such a competitive market.
the reason why the place got shut down was because fights always got started there from the hofstra crowd
Nah the reason the place got shut down is because before chrebet bought it, it was a bar called bogarts. Real shady place, got raided every other night, and the attention carried over to chrebet and he was tired of dealing with the bs
