Interesting that a twitter account associated with ISIS sent out a tweet minutes before it happened. This is the new wave of terrorism, it won't be huge attacks but these insignificant fucks who are loosely associated with terrorism carry out attacks in public places. Can't be stopped and can't be tracked.

The guy was nailed for a DUI.... not exactly your poster child for Islamic extremism either.

Can't make it hard for thugs and jackasses to get guns now can we?

This is the new America. Hope people are used to these mass shootings cause they are only getting worse it seems.

Feel free to share what could have prevented this. maybe making it a gun free zone would have helped?

Now that I think about it, what good is increased background checks on ALL sources of gun purchases gonna do? There's always gonna be a black market for a thug/nut/jackass to get one. OR if said thug/nut/jackass hasn't done anything wrong, then the background check would pass anyway.

Time to get used to this sort of mass shooting event...

Look, to me it's like putting "The Club" on your car. The professionals can easily steal your car. But it keeps amateurs away. Tougher background checks mean there will be more people not qualified to own a legal gun who are screened out. And this is a good thing. Besides there are 310 million guns in the US and you have to start somewhere. If there had been tighter background checks, better implementation and fewer loopholes (and better technology) that kid in Charleston might not have ever gotten that gun. And people who legitimately get a gun should have to have training in gun safety, etc. There are plenty of studies that say having a gun in your home increases the chances of violent deaths. http://aje.oxfordjournals.org/content/160/10/929.full IMO if better cooperation on all levels and less resistance and fewer excuses when bad things happen we could have a much saner gun culture in a country that has more violence (and more guns) than just about anywhere.

These are groups that have a history of not needing guns if they don't have them. How can we really believe that our Gov is fighting Islamic terrorists,if they are letting them in here without incident and letting them set up camp here? The problem is,the current race climate in this country is making some turn towards these groups here. So while we pretend that our military is keeping us safe, our own media is brewing this in the youth and helping to create it

You have quite a bit of faith, that the decisions that are made are in our best interest. Ever notice how gun control has been mentioned about ten times in the last 7-8 years, and every time its on the burner nothing gets done except the clearing of shelves of ammo and gun sales go thru the roof?

I'm not that sympathetic to the argument that any rule imposed by government is an abridgment of personal liberties. If you have a traffic light you're giving up some freedom. But if you don't have traffic lights and stop signs you have chaos. I remember years ago when there was a brownout in NYC having to drive home from work in Brooklyn with no traffic lights. I'll take a few sensible rules and a little less "personal freedom." Same goes for gun control. There just has to be the will to do it on a local and national level. So far there isn't.

gun laws wouldn't stop back door ,rubbed out serial number guns from hitting the street. It would stop the normal law abiding citizen from being able to protect themselves from those criminals. Usually gun control laws come up when some lone wolf does something crazy. But a drop in the ocean that slipped thru the cracks pales in comparison to the guns on the streets in the hands of those who don't buy them at the local Bass Pro shop.

But besides all that, the talk of gun control and reform only drives up sales...so what is the real motive behind the discussion of gun control. I can remember when Obama 1st took office, the talk pf the right was "hes coming for our guns". You coulodnt find a box of ammo on the shelf for months

Didn't Obama call ISIS the JV team? God help us with the Iran deal since he was so horribly wrong with ISIS. He truly is a fucking idiot.

Id feel more confident with Miss Piggy in a Pantsuit in the WH than this dingbat.

these fucking attacks are almost always in stupid ass "gun free zones". it's especially stupid when you're talking about trained marines. why shouldn't they be allowed to carry?

mr. president, tear that sticker down.

Yeah but I doubt this guy was on some sort of suicide mission for years, he's likely just some down on his luck loser Muslim who snapped. I'm sure we'll find out more about him over the next few days but I'm doubting he's part of some elaborate plot, he's just some loser who likely had no friends and fantasized about becoming a martyr and reached out to ISIS.

I can already tell you that he was a nice kid, but quiet and his neighbors are shocked that he could commit such a horrible act.
