Does anyone else feel that this guy is overrated? He's suppose to have some kind of advantage because he's been an asst. in the NFL but all he did this season was beat up on the armed forces and a 1-win Standford team. In two years he's 0-5 vs. top 10 teams and the sad part is that if the Giants choke in the playoffs he'll be offered the HC position there and ND will just end up throwing some more money at him just to keep him.
I don't think he can be evaluated as a coach just yet, you have to give him at least 3 years so he can get in his recruits and all ya know? BUT he doesn't have that signature win and like you said, struggles against top teams...But i'd give him 3-4 years.
Are you asking this based on last nights game? If you are, you can't put that on him.. LSU was just better... ND has lost something like 10 straight bowl games and has recruiting problems for years due to high academic standards.. I think he'd be a good NFL coach...
Oh here we go! Now Weiss is totally overrated!!! This shit just astounds me. He's barely playing with a fully recruited team. He walks in and takes poory playing players and turns them into top draft picks. In his first two years combined a 19-6 record. Someone get the haters in here! Let's add another 40 posts to my count.
0-5 vs. Top 10 teams. But i'll easily give him the benefit of the doubt, he is an NFL guy and I think he is a good coach. Weiss isn't overrated...Notre Dame is.
Yep... Everyone knows they can't the recruits they way they used to... no one wants the deal with the high academic standards... You could go to ND and study or Miami and party... what's the average 17 -18 year old athlete gonna pick?
Not trying to hate, but I think this is the correct sentiment. Weiss is doing well so far. You have to give him at least 2 more years to get in good recruits. He is turning underachievers into great college players. However, the so called experts shove ND to the top to get TV ratings and then put them in overmatched bowl games. As soon as this game was announced, every sensible person wrote ND off and that is because they were obviously overmatched. If the networks, analysts and voters looked at ND as realistically as they look at every other college team then Weiss's Fighting Irish would be playing even games and winning. I think the standards are so ridiculously overmatched for Weiss that he isn't really given time to get his players in and get his playbook finalized.
Notre Dame has the #1 (or #2 depending on where you look) recruiting class this year, Weiss's first full recruiting season.
Indeed. ND has been on the downslope recruiting people during the Willingham era but that's changing again and I'll be interested to see how this turns out.
