Looks like this was long overdue, that playoff loss to the Jets in 2009 and that Monday Night Meltdown will be Norv's coffin. This is according to a paper in San Diago.

This took a really long time to happen given the Chargers results. Turner should have been fired after the 9-7 in 2010 when the Chargers had the most yards in the league and gave up the fewest and still finished 9-7. AJ Smith should have been let go along side of him.

    Holy shit no.

I literally can't imagine a worse candidate for GM than AJ Smith.

AJ Smith should have been fired the minute he tried to fire Marty.

I don't want either of those guys anywhere near the Jets.

You guys are nuts! I'd take A.J. Smith as the Jets New GM without a doubt.

The guy built a roster capable of being a dynasty in S.D., had Norv Turner not sucked so bad they'd easily have a couple SB wins right now with that talent.

    Players he's drafted:
QB Eli Manning --- (Phil Rivers)
    RB Michael Turner
    C Nick Hardwick
    K Kaeding
    LB Shaun Phillips
    LB Shawne Merriman
    DT Luis Castillo
    WR Vincent Jackson
    RB Darren Sproles

-----Note, the above was JUST from the 2004-2005 drafts

    Other A.J. Smith draft picks:
    CB Antonio Cromartie
    RB Ryan Mathews
    T Marcus McNeill
    S Eric Weddle
    WR Naanne (5th)
    RB Ryan Mathews

    His Undrafted Free Agent signings:
    Greg Camarillo WR
Wes Welker WR (release decision admittely made by Schottenheimer, not Smith)
    Antonio Gates TE
    Kris Dielman OL
    Stephen Cooper LB
    Mike Tolbert RB
    Malcolm Floyd WR
    Kassim Osgood WR

Are you kidding me? I would lose my mind if the Jets could bring in that type of talent. I also think its worth mentioning that Smith was Butler's scouter and right hand man when players like Drew Brees, Ladainian Tomlinson were brought in.

I understand he's arrogant and got a big ego, but hell I'd take that eye for talent anytime!! Also, he deserves no criticism for the Schottenheimer firing, as that decision came from Dean Spanos, not him.

Norv Turner on the other hand is a joke. The Jets better not look his way not even as offensive coordinator.

He's very, very overrated as an offensive mind and I'm shocked that people still feel that way. He did fine in Dallas sure, but with 3 of the greatest players of the decade and a really good offensive line!

He destroyed a good Washington team and a really good San Diego team. His era in Oakland sucked, OC at San Fran and Miami he sucked.

You would take him over any of our coordinators on offense though. I want nothing to do with AJ Smith.

Honestly the playoff loss to the Jets in 2009 and foolishly trading Cro was the beginning of the end for Norv and AJ.

They were going to get rid of Norv last year but Rivers begged Dean Spanos because he didn't want to lose his friend.

I bet you next year that Rivers is gone too. Remember he has more turnovers than Sanchez and he has regressed so much it is unbelievable.

By the way, remember when everybody wanted Melvin Ingram? What has that guy done this year?

Through his stubborness, AJ singlehandedly destroyed that championship caliber team. He should never get another GM job in the NFL.

He's stubborn and could use a wake up call to adjust how he does things, but he also created that team.

They also aren't destroyed. They have a lot of talent, even now, certainly a lot more than the Jets and enough talent to be a playoff team.

Norv Turner singlehandedly made that team underperform for years and years.
