DAMN! Screwed it up at 5 AM. It's Chad Young - He just looks and runs like a Mack, truck, that is. Headline Correction Please!

If the mods need to move this or combine it, go ahead but here's a guy destined to be a fan favorite; hope he hangs around for a while.

Somebody posted a highlight reel in the UDFA topic - it'll make you smile! Here's a pretty decent writeup from Atlanta about him and how he works:

He stood Khalil Mack straight up three or four times going one on one. Definitely rooting for him over Bohanon.

Is this any different that The Terminator? Big hits are great for highlight reels, but he has to be able to figure out his assignments and be a contributor on ST. If he is the complete package than awesome. If not I'd rather have Bo.

    This needed to be reposted:

Welcome to International House of Pancakes, my name is Chad and I will be your server.

    Goodbye Tommy, hello IHOP.

It's been a long time since I have seen any player, even olinemen, finish blocks the way this kid does. If this was 10-15 years ago when teams actually placed any priority on FBs, this kid would have been a 3rd rounder. A few of those blocks remin ded me of the Blindside movie, when Michael Oher drives that kid over the wall in his first game. Shades of Alstott.

I think it's a lot different. Conner's hits were mostly that, just hits, this kid's blocking technique is spectacular, and he shows great ability to drive the defender away from the hole instead of just trying to blow him up. He engages and uses leverage far far better than Terminator ever did. And he looks like an animal on special teams. Hell, he looks like an animal everywhere.

I find it very hard to believe that Tommy will be on the team in September after seeing this. It's not like it's a 2 minute clip we're looking at, I just watched 10+ minutes of a fullback destroying everyone.

Now I'm going to watch it 10 more times.

Cool - if he lives up to the hype he will be great for our style of offense. I'll def keep my ears open on news from camp on him.

    Marty Mornhinweg's WCO doesn't feature a FB. It features 2 TE's or 3 WR's.

I'd agree with you if they hadn't picked up 2 FBs in 2 years, drafting one of them. Obviously they aren't going I-formation half of their plays, but there are going to be a fair amount of plays where FB is utilized, just like last season.

On 3rd and 1 are you better off lining up with a FB in the backfield or with a slot receiver in a spread?

With either Geno or Vick in the game I think you're better off in the spread because there's nothing the defense can do to minimize your chances of getting that 1 yard.

In other situations it's pretty obvious that a FB is an anachronism in today's NFL.

This is 100% a Rex signing. On top of the fact he is just a wrecking ball, it seems like he's got good instincts. Looks quicker than Bohannon as well.

I'm all for zigging when everyone else zags. Now that defenses are all about rangy secondaries that can cover a spread offense, maybe we will have some success with mixing in some 'hit you in the mouth' football that opposing defenses just don't have the personnel to counter.

Bohannon was the worst-ranked FB in football last year if I remember correctly. I don't think Bohannon has an edge at all. His contract is extremely cuttable.

I like Bohannon as well. That doesn't mean he was good last year. He wasn't. He was a 7th round pick that showed a semblance of being able to play FB in the NFL. He has the tiniest of edges over Young.

You're assuming that the receivers we have pan out immediately if you think the Jets are going to be running spreads on 3rd and 1, something that is far from a safe assumption. There are plenty of situations to run up the gut on teams, especially on teams that are strong on the outside and soft in the middle.

It's all about matchups. If you can run the football on a team, you maximize your big play potential with a powerful lead blocker. The trend is for teams moving away from fullbacks, but the pendulum always swings back the other way when the trends become the norm.

This highlight clip was a real enjoyable watch.

The kid is a gamer, has good football instincts, and really finishes off his blocks.
I absolutely think he can take Bohanon's spot, and I'm excited to see him play.
A guy like that you have to get on some ST's as well.

only thing that concerned me a little, his arms look short on pass plays.
very small catch radius, and not overly athletic in space. The blocking looks to me like it will translate very well on the next level, and the kid seems fearless.
Was very good on pass protection too, which is very important.
I'll be looking out for his receiving abilities in camp. If that looks at least decent, i think he makes this team.

I like Tommy but this kid Young might take his job. This should make for a good competition. I'm rooting for Tommy. But I wouldn't be upset if Young won the job.
