Pennington speaks: Responds to cheap shots By Craig Thomas Date: Feb 27, 2006 Recently two unnamed cowardly Jets were quoted in the New York Post saying the team should cut injury-prone quarterback Chad Pennington. Those comments didn't go unnoticed by the signal-caller, who is currently living in Sarasota, Florida. "I'm glad I'm down here and not up there (in New York)," said Pennington, who is rehabbing his surgically repaired right shoulder in Bradenton, Fla. "I've heard my teammates don't want me back." It's not all your teammates, Chad, it's just two gutless individuals taking a cheap shots at you. Pennington also isn't happy about the team's proposal to cut his salary in 2006 from $9 to $ 1 million. "They want to pay me less than what most backup quarterbacks are making," said Pennington. Pennington's agent Tom Condon has been meeting over the last few days with Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum in Indianapolis at the NFL Scouting Combine. Since neither the agent or GM are talking to the media about the talks, there is no way to tell how the negotiations are progressing. If Pennington doesn't except a signicant paycut by March 3, he could be cut. http://jets.scout.com/2/503310.html
And Chad is also forgetting that the Jets have offered incentives so that if he starts and plays well he will get much more.
You're right, Chad - I guess we shouldn't take any of that $26(?) million, or so, that you have already been paid under this contract. Silly Jets.
sad thing is he might be lucky to be making that when all is said and done. he's made plenty of money for not playing and expects the organization to bend over and take it financially and the team cap-wise? why cuz hes a southern gentleman with a big heart? if he cant come back as a serviceable QB none of these write ups will mean anything by the end of the yr.
Hey Chad - How about when they paid you as a top 5 QB and you never delivered like a top 5 QB? But that's OK? You're luck Bradway was here to pay you.
Chad continues to overrate himself and underestimate his new Leadership team. He's getting really bad advice but perhaps this is what he's gonna need. To learn a lesson the hard way by screwing up his best opportunity to make similar money thru incentives. I was never a Chad guy anyway but now, after watching Mr. DL/IR play "hardball"? Left to me they could have cut this guy last friday.
He deserves to get paid less than brooks! brooks at least played and won more games than chad....what an ego he has "Hey im chad pennington, i've only played like 12 games the last two seasons but i still think i should be payed as much as tom brady because umm because im good.." Props to those two jets for speaking their mind.
Who is Craig Thomas? He certainly is not a legitimate reporter. A real reporter would know how to spell accept. (not except)
Apparently it's not only a privilege for writers to cover him, it's a privilege for the Jets to pay him millions of dollars to not play. I guess Chad didn't get the memo that the current regime feels absolutely no sense of obligation towards him whatsoever, and the only reason he wasn't cut a long time ago is the salary cap hit.
Yead dude, Brooks has won one game!!!! Chad has every right to defend himself. He didn't ask to get injured and would have played if allowed. Isn't he the one that took the Jets to the AFC divisional playoff's in '04 with a torn cuff? And if you remember early in '05, he threw the game winning TD against Jacksonville but Chrebet dropped it. The Jets WIN more than they lose when Chad plays. Argue that!!! Don't be a dumb Jets fan. If you're going to talk smack at least get your facts close to straight... :drunk:
Well, it's true. And I love how when everyone's favorite QB, Jay Cutler, throws his teammates under the bus it's OK because it's true yet when Chad makes a perfectally factual point he gets blasted.
i'm tired of seeing the jets pay the guy like a king for licking his wounds the worst part is, he expects it.
For a so called "smart guy", Chad might want to forget about public relations as a job after his playing days are over. Talk about horrible timing. You have one player, Curtis Martin, who comes to the Jets and says take money back after one injury filled year. Then you have Chad, who complains after already receiving 26 million and misses a bunch of games over a two year period. For someone that told his agents to just "get it done", I think thats exactly what he just did...but not they way he intended....again.
