    saw this on ESPN insider:

    Random stuff

? Despite rumors swirling that Chad Pennington's shoulder was injured when he took a wicked hit in the second quarter against the Bucs, the Jets and Pennington are insisting that it's fine.

The way Pennington was throwing, by the way, makes him my early Comeback Player of the Year favorite.

I wouldn't go that far.. Chad looked ok, and its something to build on. But in my opinion the offense looked a lot better with Clemens behind center. If Chad stays healthy for a good six or seven weeks and produces up to his potential then maybe we can start the comback player of the year talk.

Chad would look great too playing against 3rd string players.

If Chad stays healthy and plays in 16 games this year I'd find it hard to find someone who would be more likely to win that award. A healthy Chad Pennington is a top flight winning QB... just... can he stay healthy?

If Chad stays healthy and this team approaches or reaches .500, Penningtons got a great chance to win that. But without the wins, itll go to some nobody from a playoff team who missed a few games last year instead.

I wouldn't go as far as "Comeback Player of the Year", yet. There is promise. This is good because many of us had him written off last year. At least he looks as though there is potential. He definitely was not throwing the wounded ducks that he was throwing wen he was injured in 2 years' past. He was not a rocket arm either, but that is Chad.

He still has to withstand the rigors of a physically demanding season, and there will be some good shots he will have to take, no doubt. There is promise though...............more than I once thought.

I was looking at him on the side line. It appeared to me that he has built his upper body up considerably and not just from the flack jacket either. He looks physically stronger and looks like he has more muscle mass in his torso. Hopefully, he will be more resiliant as a result of this.

If Chad comes back and has a good year, he should win it. First player ever to come back from 2 torn rotator cuffs.

However, even if he has a good year, with Rothlisberger coming back from the crash, Palmer coming back from his terrible injury, plus Culpepper and Brees, I doubt he wins.

I highly doubt it. I am getting tired of waiting for Pennington to be Pennington. He is 5 years removed from his breakout year in 2002. Since then it has been nothing but reoccuring injuries and let downs. Listen to every Jet fan. Waiting hesitentley to see if he gets up after a hit. That is not reassuring. OK he got up this time but chances are he will get hurt again. Even though Clemens look pretty good I don't think we should throw him in there yet. Not even if Pennington gets hurt. I would definitely start him next year. This year is a wash anyway. Hopefully we can get an explosive receiver, a furocious OLB and a monster NT in the draft. That is not out of the question.

If I had to bet right now my money would be on jamal lewis or ahman green instead of Chad P. that being said If he can get up fine from a few more tough hits like I saw him take friday then I might believe he can play a full season, in which case he definately has the ability and motivation to be player of the year.

How great would that be if this happened. It would finally shut up all the fans that said after last Sept. he was done.
