I guess this franchise is going to settle for mediocrity again. Pennington to stay a Jet? Doesn't anyone but me recognize that Chad Pennington is the Billy Ray Cirus of the NFL...the one hit wonder...the one good season only to be unproductive the rest of his entire career. Couldn't we at least take a stab at other free agent QB's..Schaub, Brees, anyone? This is killing me!!!!
One hit wonders don't have a 92.1 career QB rating. I believe he took the team to the playoffs in 2002 & 2004. Schaub is more a one-hit wonder because he's only played in one game, and he lost!!! I saw a report this morning that said Brees might have rotator cuff damage, so how would he be better than Penny? Ramsey is unproven, Kitna is alright, Volek is unproven. Any other suggestions?
Buddy, Let me explain something. This is a New York board. Who the hell talks about Bill Ray Cirus. Tell you what, I'll be a nice guy. I'll wish you something. I hope your favorite movie wins the oscar on sunday. Good luck, "cowboy." Mike As New Yawk as New Yawk gets. No more Billy ray BS on this board. Go troll your Marcus Vick stuff elsewhere.
I've got to disagree here. Beyond the fact I thoroughly enjoy all of Billy Ray Cirus' work, I don't think you can say Chad is a one-hit wonder. When he's in there (which, granted, isn't all the time), the Jets win. His 2003 and 2004 seasons, injuries aside, were good. If they can get him to come down on his salary, I think it's a risk worth taking in 2006. If he puts some skin in the game with his contract this year, then I think he should be given a chance in 2006.
I can take out money here, too?! I...oh. Cirrus. Right. EDIT: JETS avatars kill me sometimes. Tell ya why. Like Mickey Shuler up there, I get the sensation that, well, Mickey Shuler is speaking. That's why it never fails to me make me screech when you get stuff akin to what's to follow now and again. For the sake of example... "Shut up you dumb ass b*stard home boy *&^%#$@! I'll kill you!" And along with Pennington's picture: BANNED. Makes me laugh like hell.
On hit wonder... Michael Vick would have a career 92.1 rating if all his passes were 2 and 3 yds downfield. Give me a break with the QB rating stuff. Schaub is familiar with the West Coast system and seems to be a pretty bright QB. Plus, he can throw a pass more than 10 yds downfield. Why Kitna and Volek - you guys want to bring another Neil O'Donnel type in here?
NFL history is littered with 1 hit wonders who have played and had 1 or 2 great seasons only to end up in the NFL dust bin of future failed saviors. A few that come to mind right off the top of my head. Mark Rypien Kerry Collins Don Majkowski Greg Landry Quincy Carter Chandler Lomax Beuerlein Woodley Earl Morral Vince Ferragamo Marc Bulger Elvis Grbac Steve Bono Pennington's best year as a QB was his first year on the field and he has been getting worse ever since. His arm is torn up and he has never played close to a full season. It's 3 and a half years since the Colts playoff game.
The bottom line is that Chad is either being cut or he's taking a massive pay cut. He is obviously not on Team Tan-gini's long-term plans. So stop worrying.
We will also have awhole bunch more cap room open if we restructure penny rather then just release him, that saves us from cutting alot more people.
And Chad is proven. To be fragile and inconsistent. I'm with the original poster here. We know Chad is dogshit. So let's take a chance on someone who MIGHT be good at least.
Quincy stoned lead the Cowboys to as many wins as the Jets every got when Pennington was the starter. He also had a better winning % in 04, stoned on crack, QB the Jets than Pennington did in 04.
LT was an awesome player i envied all Giants fans when i watched him play.He was even better in person the man was a monster who played the linebacker position like no other.
Thank the spirits somebody said it. I guess people do not realize. I am hoping Chad starts and shuts all of you haters up. Besides that, you have to realize how much money we save by restructuring him, you really want 12 million in "dead" money. If he restructures we save 7-10 mil and have one of the best backups in the NFL, he may even still be a starter. Crazier things in sports have happened then two shoulder surgeries and conitinued success.
