Fascinating exchange between Joe B from JetXFactor and Damien Woody regarding Carter Warren. Joe posted quite a few of all 22 clips of Carter Warren. Brutal to watch. Supports what I was saying before that he played like shit. Woody however thinks he has tools and needs to be developed. Both are probably true: Warren can develop, but he is quite far away right now from where he needs to be. Second season will show a lot. If he doesn't show massive improvement at 25 years of age this year, may be waste of a pick. Still I will stick to I said before: he needs to be the #10th OLman on the team (with Max on PS). Then we can see in training camp if he has taken a year two leap.
Unfortunately you don’t draft 25 year old mid-round prospects to develop them. The hope is that they are able to step in and start cooking relatively quickly.
Drafting a developmental OL is stupid as f:k--at best they'll be average in their 3rd year and then good in their 4th--then they leave via FA
I've got no issue with Warren being our 4th/5th string OT this coming season but under no circumstance should this FO and CS go into this offseason with him penciled in as a starter or our swing OT. He's older but he's still only been in the league a year and those clips Joe B posted on Twitter are just brutal to watch. The amount of times he let someone cross his face is alarming. Can't have that.
He's a 4th round pick. Nobody was expecting him to light things up in the first year. 4th round tackles are pretty much always projects. I wouldn't throw him into the starting role just yet, but he could eventually get there. In year 2, we expect some improvement.
Some improvement, yes, I am hoping too, which is why I would keep him as #10 OL guy on the roster. But the guy is 25 and just had an awful rookie year. I am rooting for him, but it will be a nice surprise if he can take a massive second year leap and develop into a decent bench guy. That hope to me is worth #10 roster spot, but we need to ensure there are 9 OL men better than him on the roster this year.
