This mall is 10 minutes from my home. It is pretty expensive so I don't usually shop there but I still go rarely to check stuff at Macy's and some other shops.

The third floor of the garage is rarely used except the holiday season.

So sorry to hear this. It is really disturbing.

The shooting is suspicious especially when the wife was unharmed, but either way, a very tragic act. I don't shop there, but I definitely patronize the Cheesecake Factory on the regular.

I used to work at the golf course across the street from the mall and used to frequent it for lunch and it was the only mall in the area at the time that had a Borders. This just sucks especially in a really nice area like Short Hills.

They took the car. I don't think a hit squad would have taken the car, even to disguise the hit as a carjacking. Not to mention doing it in front of a witness and then leaving them alive would be out of bounds also.

It was just a carjacking that ended up the way so many carjackings do, with the victim dead and the car abandoned at the end.

Such a horrible tragedy and completely senseless.

Edit: and if you think the wife was involved, well that's really unlikely. She wouldn't have been anywhere near the hit if it was her doing. She'd have been at lunch with friends or at a social event to provide her an alibi. She's going to be questioned as a witness now as well as a person who might have motive. That gives her much more exposure to being tripped up if she's guilty.

They mentioned that it happened on the 3rd level of the parking facility at the mall.

Not knowing Short Hills, I'll assume there isn't a "pay toll" of sorts you have to stop at before exiting?

No toll at the garage.Free parking. But it should take an easy 3-4 minutes to go down during crowded times. Incident happened late so I believe thats why they were able fled easily.

Turns out the guy was 30 year old Dustin Friedland, he apparently graduated from the same high school I did but a few years after me so I didn't know him. He was a lawyer who lived in Hoboken.

His father owns a business near by me. I'm friends with 2 employees. These 2 were devastated said Dustin was such a humble and generous guy. Sad story. Also said he would have just given up the keys if asked

Brooklyn can attest, short hills mall is prime for robbing someone.

EVERY car in the lot is high end Benz, Bentley, range rover, etc.

It really reminded me of Beverly Hills.

I'm not easily impressed by wealth either being from around Alpine NJ.

Also the gentlemen was a fellow Cuse alum.

    RIP

I have to ask, the Short Hills mall has that kind of clientele and they don't have security in the parking lot with all those high-end vehicles? Something is wrong there.

They have security all over of the inside.

I don't remember seeing security vehicles in the parking garage.

    Parking garages always concern me.

As a matter of fact, the building I work in is building a parking garage, it's supposed to have 150+ cameras. Guess what?

They have 1 security guard on the day shift and 1 on the night shift.

    I won't be using it.
