Random question: If you were playing the Mets before Delgado/Beltran come back, would it pay to just walk Wright like half the time (depending on the situation)? I mean, I'd take my chances with the Church/Santos combo, despite their RBI tonight.
I would. Not every time, but when there's a runner in scoring position and an open base, for sure. It's really a one hitter lineup. No Reyes, no Beltran, no Delgado. After placing Beltran on the DL, there are now 13 pitchers and zero backup middle infielders.
dear God, you can't wave him home on that. the fact that he scored doesn't change that it was a boneheaded call.
Completely agree. Shines went to the Aguayo school of third base coaching. Stop sending runners when the throw will clearly beat them to the plate.
"Santos makes the read"? Are they for real? Are they saying that it wasn't obvious that he could make it to third? Shouldn't a baserunner always run hard? With a decent throw he's out by a mile. The ONLY argument in favor of sending Santos home was that Redding was the batter on deck, and that has nothing to do with Santos "making the read." I'm getting the feeling that the injury problems have put Gary, Keith and Ron in full cheerleader mode.
I'm sure you guys are watching on SNY but as of right now I'm stuck with Comcast in the middle of Sox country so I have to watch on ESPN2. Phillips and co. are so busy felating Pujols, Molina, and LaRusa that they're barely even announcing the damn game. It's unbearable. Brings back memories of McCarver and Buck doing the same in the playoffs 3 years ago.
Yeah, I went to school in NY and am from LI so I kind of took SNY for granted up until the last week or so since I've moved up here. I think I'm going to try investing in a slingbox and hooking it up to my parents' TV back on the island to try and avoid this crap form here on out.
It becomes an even easier decision when there's a double play machine behind him. Well, you have to expect it when La Russa just got a milestone win.
