We got Santonio for a 5th because he was facing a 4game suspension and 1 mistake from missing the year.
I guess we agree on the points I was making then (cap issues, build through draft etc). A lot of the people on this board disagree on at least one of those two points and simply post a Tanny picture. Tanny too knows the issues he's dealing with.
The other poster, "Revis is your daddy" already addressed this. Santonio can be traded for a 4th in a heartbeat. He'll get $27mil between 2013-2015. Thats $9mil per year. Not a bargain of course, but Santonios potential is there. Randy Moss was traded for a 4th at age 34 after he had 139 yards in 4 games. He was traded for a 5th at age 30 after he had a 500 yard season. He was also a locker room cancer when losing. Revis is 26 years old. He's not leaving his prime at 27, or 28, or 29, or 30. He still has 4 years of prime left. His enormous salary in 2013 is just $7mil. Thats a bargain for the best CB in the NFL. He has a lot of signing bonus prorated over the year that inflates his salary cap charge, but when traded the other team will only pay the base ($3mil), any roster bonus ($3mil), and any other bonuses ($1 mil). I don't think all the teams will be squeezed for cap. A lot of the teams that were dozens of millions under the cap front loaded their contracts in order to hit the minimum 90% cap rule. They'll have a ton of space the next year and would do something similar again. I can think of 31 teams where Revis can be an upgrade, and I can think of 31 teams that can accommodate his $7mil contract.
Randy Moss is the greatest receiver of all time when he's motivated to play. You cannot compare him to a guy like Holmes who won't even have a shot at the hall of fame when he's done.
They guy was comparing stats and I gave an example. Santonio is not in the league of Moss at their primes, but at age 35, I think Moss is not in the league of Santonio.
If Randy Moss was motivated to play next season I think he'd catch 75 balls for about 1200 yards and 10 TD's and that would be with Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow throwing to him. The motivation part is what makes him a bad bet. Santonio Holmes will have to get lucky to catch 75 balls next year for about 1000 yards and 10 TD's. At the age of 28 he's not remotely as good as a motivated Randy Moss at 35.
