Who other than Mark Sanchez will probably be cleared off the books this coming year? I don't foresee any of our other big contract players getting cut... I think Antonio Cromartie will stay, as will David Harris, Nick Mangold, and D'Brickashaw Ferguson. The lone question mark to me is Santonio Holmes... I'm not willing to hazard a guess just yet. I think a lot of what people have said about him has been overblown, so we will see. I have this sneaking suspicion that we will get Holmes, Cumberland, and Winslow back after the buy, and with a weaker schedule and some momentum, our offense will step up and start to click. Holmes is a player who notoriously steps up in the late/post season, so if he can put up a couple 100+ yard games between now and the end of the season, maybe a good playoff game as well I see him sticking around.
Unless he takes a big paycut, Holmes should be cut. It is because of him and his attitude that we do not have team captains anymore. Harris is overpaid but I think he has done enough to stick around for a while. Mangold and Cro are worth every penny while Fergeson sticks because he is doing OK at a position that is very hard to fill even though he has been inconsistent.
We have captains, we just don't have the silly captains patches which we should all be thankful for. The players in the LR know who the real leaders are.
Holmes has got to go after this season. Cromartie isn't fully healthy and despite his poor first half, we need him at the CB position due to uncertainty
Brick seems to restructure every offseason he stays. Mangold is a jet for life. Holmes takes a pay cut or gets cut. If Cro gets healthy and finished strong he stays. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cro, is a good to very good corner in the league. It's a challenging position that when things go wrong they get the spotlight more than anywhere else. All in all Cro usually does get the job done. Holmes, should be gone. Unless, this guy comes back and becomes a production receiver and keeps his mouth shut and just plays football; peace holmes. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. People here give him way more love than he deserves. All in all Holmes usually doesn't get the job done.
He is not the Revis type. He will restructure to stay on Rex defense. #31 has made it pretty clear this is where he wants to play ball.
Harris is a beast. We are lucky to have him back there leading our defense. Hitman, is smart and just plays ball.
The Jets will cut Sanchez and Holmes (unless Holmes takes a drastic paycut). I'm not sure on Cro, but I think they'll do something with his contract. It's like 14 mil next year, and it's 5.5 mil if we cut him. We should end up with a lot of cap space and some nice compensatory picks next year. We may also get another pick from the bucs if they keep Revis another year.
Remember when we shutdown the best offensive threat at wide receiver every week? Now, we shutdown the best offensive threat at running back every week. You know the qb's hate getting hit too, they hate seeing Green colors getting into the backfield on every down. This defense should be a lot of fun to watch for the next few years.
were getting a pick irrespective of him being on the team ... if he is on the team, we get a third, if not we get a fourth we didnt cut landry, greene, devito or keller
This....i would say holmes would have been a lock to get the ax but stephen hill has not emerged so who knows. cromartie may be somewhat dependent on how milliner finishes up this year. no doubt the flexibility will be there to continue to improve the team.
Sanchez needs to be cut, obviously. He just needs to be off the Jets. He may play very well somewhere else, he just needs to leave here. Harris, Mangold and Brick will be back. Probably some sort of structure. Holmes, for me at least, is an easy cut. He's talented, but he isnt super talented. He just isnt worth the money if he's going to miss half the season every year. Cut him and move on. This means (at least for me) you need to either sign the top receiver FA, or draft one with your first pick. Cromartie is a tricky one. He's a good player and good teammate, but he isnt getting any younger. I like the idea of getting rid of a guy a year early as opposed to a year too late. A big part of the decision on Cromartie is how Milliner turns out to be. If by the end of the season Milliner looks like a legit number 1, you either cut Cromartie or tell him to restructure to a very low amount. The Jets have a very interesting offseason coming up. Number 1 is to lock up Wilkerson forever.
