For months on end I came onto this site and saw people pissing and moaning over and over again about how bad our cap situation was, how we couldn't re-sign anyone, and how we'd be virtually non-existent in free agency.

Well, looks like Tannenbaum and Terry were right all along. They apparently hedged their bets on both the CBA, the restructuring of contracts, and now low and behold, we're 14 million under the cap (as reported by ESPN). And that's before we trade abraham. After he goes, we'll be about 21/22 mil under the cap, which is just plain AWESOME.

Plus, we're not overspending like these other idiotic teams are doing, which makes it even sweeter.

So I pose the question, to all of you who griped about this incessantly over the last 6 months (you know who you are): how do you feel now, after getting all worked up about something that the media spun like charlotte spins a web? Bring it.

It had more to do with Tanny then Bradway. Tanny watched over the cap, and dealt with the contracts. Without Tanny doing the contracts and negotiating with Pennington, we would be cap hell right now.

All that Bradway did was say he wanted a player signed.

I agree with you that we were never in serious cap trouble this year. Our cap figure was inflated by easily removable incentives. While our cap situation was not enviable it was not anywhere close to being Parcellian in nature. We did not cut a single player this year for cap reasons. Players were cut and saved money but the overriding reasons were age, poor play and personal differences not cap savings. Unlike 2002 where we lost many key starters soley because of cap problems.

I also agree to a certain extent that Bradway pushed out the Parcell defecits in hopes a new CBA could pay them off. I am sure the posters here will give our new GM all the credit and Bradway none even though it was Tannebaum along with Parcells that got us into the Parcellian cap hell we have remained in before Bradway ever put his foot in the door.

I would also agree that people have been taking whatever excuse they can find to blame the previous regime for whatever problems they want to complain about and in turn will praise the new regime for any action good or bad. Thats just the nature of the boards. They continually post the same thing over and over until they convince each other that they are right. Trying to stop them is like trying to stop lemmings from running to the see. Its the nature of message boards that all original and thoughtful posts will always be drowned out by the masses screaming for their next execution. In a few years time it will be Tanny and Mangini's time to place their heads on the chopping block and soon after that we will have a few new untouchable golden boys.

I had to comment on this one. First, I agree. The next is the use of the word "Parcellian". I said it a few times at my desk. It sounds great! I may have to use that one when I discuss IT portfolios and chargebacks. I can just imagine, "You do realize that these practices are Parcellian, don't you?" The look of dumbfoundedness on some of the high-priced execs would be worth the risk of saying it.

i always felt the Jets had a chance to make this offseason good...when mangina was hired i felt great...when Bradway was demoted and Tanny took over, i partied up and got biligerent, there is a chance that this offseason could be a great one, but if it turns out to be a bust with all this play money we have, i might take up parachute-free sky-diving

Yeah that's great, now let's get some players.

Amazingly, the Redskins continue to spend money like sailors on shore leave and they're almost $5 million over the cap at this time.

I beginning to think the salary cap is like the national deficit. It looks bad on paper, but if you just continue to ignore it, there's no problem.

I for one have been a supporter of Tanny for a long time. During the season when people were calling for Bradway's head, I was saying Tanny should replace him.

Tanny served the same function under Parcells as he did under Bradway. He negotiated contracts and managed the cap. It was his job to get a player signed when they wanted him to. If you are going to put part of the blame on Tanny for the cap hell under Parcells, you have to give him some of the credit for "pushed out the Parcell defecits in hopes a new CBA could pay them off" as you put it under Bradway. It was his job to do as he was told, and if he wasn't there, the situation probably have been much worse, IMO.

I'm actually a generally happy individual. I'm particularly moody this week because of lack of sleep and muscle ache from moving.

And the lude moniker comes from my IRC handle about 10 years ago.

I'd label Ty Law as a cap casualty. If his cap number was lower, I think he would still be on the team. He was one of the few bright spots on the Jets last season, and I'm sure Mangini could have used his veteran leadership to help groom our young secondary.

Having done what you describe many times, I clearly appreciate your pain. Moving does indeed suck. Was what you wrote before, "Don't quit your day job", in reference to a dislike you had for the post or me? Granted what I posted was kind of corny, but I also felt it was a bit unnecessary for you to potentially encite.

To this day, I don't know whether I am liked on this board or disliked. That is the honest truth. I will be the first to admit that I fluctuate between the sensible and the absurd, but that is just the way I am. I work very hard during the day and deal with a lot of intense decisions. I see this board as an escape sometimes. But, let me close by saying, that I do like the board very much.

If the board wants me to change the style and/or content of my posts all they need to do open a thread on the BS side or PM me with a general consensus. I will not take it personally at all.

It was a sarcastic comment to a bad joke. I generally enjoy your posts.

This was your cue to start breaking into a chorus of Billy Joel, "Don't go changin'...........

And now they are really taking advantage of it by doing nothing.

Let me go get my keyboard. I play rather well, but I can't guarantee my voice won't send you packing.
