First of all, I like how the front office is handling this situation. Letting JV seek his own trade instead of keeping him in the dark is a sign of respect, respect that Jonathan Vilma definitely earned.

I hope he likes Ohio, and here's why. First of all, he would be THE linebacker in Cincy, who run the 4-3. He's a classy character guy, the kind of guy the Bengals desperately need, somebody Lewis could build a defense around.

What's in it for us? Cincy tagged Stacy Andrews. We could use him. Chad Johnson wants a trade. We could use him. Plus, if we need more ammunition, trading out of the #6 spot down to #9 wouldn't be devastating and it would likely give the Bengals a shot at McFadden (since Rudi kinda fell off last year) or a top rated D-Lineman.

Anyway, mere speculation. My ulterior motive for this post is to thank Jonathan Vilma for his brief tour of duty with the New York Jets. I will always root for this guy, regardless of the uniform.

I really think Chris Berman said it best: "VILLLLMAAAAAA!"

no way cincy sends either chad johnson or stacy andrews for vilma straight up. Teams will be playing serious hardball with vilma considering he was hurt and did not perform great in the 3-4. i'm guaranteeing that vilma does not get traded because this FO knows what he's worth and that no team will offer what he is worth.

i don't think andrews can be traded unless he signs a new contract with cinci first and they remove the tag.

I wouldn't mind a straight up trade for ocho or andrews if they could work out a deal with him.

considering washington has the most interest in chad johnson...i doubt we would put together the best package the way the skins give it away
not to mention washington is nfc and at most they would play cj once every 4 years

The Bengals are considering a move to the 3-4. If anywhere, it'll be the Jaguars or Saints.

Yeh, they ain't sendin Johnson for anything less then Vilma and our 2 and maybe 5th round picks.

Think about it like this... Chad Johnson is not only a good receiver, but he's also a very popular player around the league. Giving him up is giving up money from the attention and memorabilia/jersey sales he warrants. Although he's not very important to the future of their team, he is important to them in other ways, which means they ain't gonna get lowballed for him.

Vilma is a good football player and I still think there's a chance he could be successful here, but I'd do that in a heartbeat.

what would be the problem with vilma learing to play the outside...he has the speed for a rusher

but swap picks with cincy and chad for vilma sounds pretty good to me but very unlikley but we all dream

He can't handle interior linemen. You don't want to see what would happen to him going up against tackles.

I don't think the Jets would want to pay Stacey Andrews top 5 guard money. Isn't that the way franchising works?

Cinci didn't tag him for shits and giggles. He's a young guy with a ton of potential who played at a very high level (gave up 1 sack all year) in his first year of starting. He didn't even play football until his senior year of college.

We need to invest heavily in our o-line. Andrews would be a fine addition at RT for years and fit in nicely with Ferguson and Mangold. That unit could grow together and potentially become dominant. I would pay the man if it were an option.

This trade is extremely unlikely though.

I'm firmly in the camp of a Vilma-Harris combo in the middle... if he bounces back and has a solid year, resigning him in the offseason will be the obvious thing to do Vilma and Harris in the middle with the possibilty of adding a Gholston/Groves on the outside.... that has the makings of a fine young LB core for years.... and those clamoring for us to resign Rhodes this offseason, i am totally in that camp as well, however worst comes to worst and a deal doesnt happen this offseason, and Vilma bounces back and has a rediculous season in the middle next to harris, if we could only save one guy next offseason with the franchise tag who would you choose? Rhodes or Vilma? that in my eyes would be a hell of a decision if Vilma has a moster year...

What about to the Falcon's for DeAngelo Hall? He's looking to get traded and then we would have a pimp secondary on D and probably not have to pay Asante Samuel free agent money.
