This looks like a Very winnable schedule, ( not to look over anybody), But Hell, think the mets take the division THIS YEAR after LAST YEARS BIG CHOKE!!!!!!! All times ET. Game times are subject to change. Mon 8 Tue 9 vs WSH 7:10 PM Perez W Wed 10 vs WSH 7:10 PM Pelfrey Thurs 11 Fri 12 vs ATL 7:10 PM Santana Sat 13 vs ATL 3:55PM Martinez Sun 14 vs ATL 1:10 PM Perez Mon 15 @ WSH 7:10 PM Pelfrey Tue 16 @ WSH 7:10 PM #5 Wed 17 @ WSH 7:10 PM Santana Thurs 18 @ WSH 7:10 PM Martinez Fri 19 @ ATL 7:30 PM Perez Sat 20 @ ATL 7:00 PM Pelfrey Sun 21 @ ATL 1:30 PM #5 Mon 22 vs CHC 7:10 PM Santana Tue 23 vs CHC 7:10 PM Martinez Wed 24 vs CHC 7:10 PM Perez Thurs 25 vs CHC 7:10 PM Pelfrey Fri 26 vs FLA 7:10 PM #5 Sat 27 vs FLA 1:10 PM Santana Sun 28 vs FLA Martinez
I rearranged the schedule, I'll agree with what a guy said on the Fan the key to the schedule will be what we will get out of Pedro and whoever the #5 pitcher will be, because I think we will do alright with Santana, Pelfrey and Perez but we can't absolutely stink with the bottom 2 or we may be cutting it close.
Ironically it is against the bad teams where we have been known to struggle against, we've done well against the good teams.
It is way too early and way too close to be talking about a supposedly easy schedule. The bullpen has been doing okay lately, but they are still highly suspect. Personally I think Pedro is 100% done, so I expect absolutely nothing from him the rest of the way. Stokes or Figueroa would seem to be the natural candidates for the #5 spot, and there is no way of knowing what they can give. The biggest thing the Mets have going for them is that the Phils aren't that good - they're 38-37 since the middle of June. It will probably take about 91-92 wins to win the division, and the Mets are more likely to go 11-8 than the Phils are to go 13-6.
I am not talking about any easy schedule, I am just talking about that we should do well with Santana, Pelfrey and Perez on the mound, just since August we've been 16-6 when each of those 3 starts so it isn't about who we are playing against. But having 2 coin flips in the starting rotation along with the rollercoaster bullpen is pretty iffy. And I don't think we remove Stokes from the bullpen and maybe Figueroa as well as they have been the smooth part to a very rocky bullpen that we have.
I quoted you about the Pedro part, not the easy schedule part (two other people referred to the schedule). You've got 12 starts from the "big 3", and the Mets have to go at least 9-3 in those; if you get 3 wins out of 7 starts elsewhere, that's 92 wins, and Philly has to go 14-5 just to tie, which I don't see them doing. The problem is that I could see the Mets getting 1 win in those other 7 starts, putting even more pressure on the top 3.
Oh OK my mistake, I just hope that Perez doesn't decide to pitch down to his competition like he usually does this year.
I did a guess as to our probable pitchers for the rest of the schedule, now it could change if we decide to pitch on short rest if things get real close at the end of the season (barring injury of course).
