It's enough. The 25th pick in the draft for Turner is an absolute heist for the Jets. All this overrating of that pick. And Leon Washington is not an every down back. You're not beating New England with that type of running game. It's amazing how overrated this pick is on this site. Heaven forbid we don't get to watch a couple people at the draft, with Jet construction helmets on, standing their ready to overreact to the 25th pick in the draft. Gimmie a break.
What if the guy we could have picked at 25 turns into a pro bowl player & Turner turns out to be a guy that could never carry the load. Would it still be an absolute heist?
Agreed. This is a very deep draft, and adding a talent like Turner for our first pick would be nice. There are an exceptional amount of guards and tackles in this draft who look good and could be had late. Even better, there are quite a few 2nd and 3rd round guys in this draft that can play in the 3-4. Sure, I'd like Turner to be had for a second. But considering how deep this draft is, I don't think I'd care about our first going there. This draft actually seems far more deep AFTER the first round.
A first round draft pick in any form is supposed to be a great player, but as we have learned some first rounder cant even make the starting line up or take several years to pan out. Then when they finally pan out, they want major bucks. Even a trade for your pick is not guaranteed on being good. It’s a crape shoot no matter what!
That is horrible logic. What if we held the pick, and picked a guy who absolutely busted? It's not like draft picks are locks to be anything. They're just as risky, sometimes even more risky than a young pro player who has never started before but has shown the necessary tools.
Well, that was my point really. I am not all that against trading away a first for Turner, it does seem like a bit much though considering I don't really see any other team giving up that much for him. But the point was, to say that it would be an absolute heist is just as ignorant as saying that it will be a complete bust.
Lost in all this discussion is how much more financially Turner would cost the Jets as opposed to a draft pick. Turner doesn't have a contract. He is going to want Lamont Jordon type money. A 25th overall pick gets peanuts compared to that. Yes, the Jets do have some cap space this year, but tying that much money in an unproven RB is crazy. Spend it on other Free agents and draft the best guard with that pick.
my thinking...don't get me wrong, he looks good and could be a great starting back, but so far, we don't know much about him
i agree with people overatting the pick.. because like you said its #25..but i still dont know if its worth trading for turner. even TO and Daunte went for 2nd rd picks.. and they are proven pro bowlers.
I thought we beat New England?? All with a 1st year coach and systems with an OL and defense still lacking a lot of pieces. BUT, Could he be a heist??? I think the Jets and even the fans should get a few more weeks to gather more data... A month ago people thought Carricker and Okoye were 2nd round picks, now people say there's no chance in hell we get either guy at 25.... EVERYONE'S Boards are moving around right now and the combine will help. I'd like to see the Jets play it cool - Make it seem like they are fine with the RB's they have, evaluate the draft fully and THEN make a decision. And hopefully negotiate Turner for a 2nd round pick..... You can't shop for Turner like my wife shops...."I want it... I want it".... Relax.
I thought the construction hat line was pretty funny dude. hahaha And I agree that the pick is overrated. All picks are overrated because they are crapshoots. I will also say that the majority of the people on this board are in love with the draft and against free agency. It takes a nice combo of both to build a great team
i completely agree, but like others have pointed out, proven pro-bowl players have been traded for 2nd round picks lately. This guy is an unproven backup. I don't think it's a matter of over-rating the 1st round pick, I think it's a matter of fair market value.
The what if lies on both sides and the risk / reward is high either way. My vote go with the cheaper risk...if they both crap out (both being turner and our first round pick) at least the pick will be cheaper
The reason I'd feel less bad about trading our 1st round pick for Turner is that we pick again only about 10 picks later thanks to the 2nd round trade down with the Skins. So, We'll still have 2 picks in the first two rounds and get a running back that (and here's the ultimate scounting question) likely grades higher than any back availble in this 2007 draft between picks 25 through the end of round 2.
Huge baggage though... and for Daunte, injury as well.. Turner for #25 is worth it. However, is Turner worth a Jordan contract without proving himself? Tough call.. He could turn into Jordan or he could turn into a stud... same risk as a draft pick... less cost in the draft pick though
When you're a mediocre franchise the possability of the first round pick being the savior is incredibly valuable. If you trade it for Turner all we have is Turner. Until we actually take some one, the first round pick could be the next Elway, Stabauch or Namath. I'm not ready to part with hope for Turner yet.
