The Dolphins have decided on Chargers offensive coordinator Cam Cameron as their next coach, but still need to work out the contract details. http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/16500111.htm
Damn he's got potential to be a legit head coach. I was hoping they'd hire Mora and stink it up for another 4 years.
Ok did anyone else see the second half of the Chargers game? Cam Cameron was the only person alive who didnt know that the Chargers ran on LT's legs not Rivers' arm. This hiring does nothing for me other than laugh at the Phins because it's a first time head coach going into an albatross of a situation. Bad roster, old defense, no QB, defensive coordinator who easily could win a power struggle with the players. Aside from the weather the Miami job sucks.
Not bad.....hopefully he chokes like he did this past sunday.....wonder if he is gonna have total control??
When you sign his D-coordinator before he gets hired to the largest assistant coach's contract, that probably means he doesn't have total control.
hopefully he won't give it to his running back that is averaging 6 yards per carry while leading in the 4th quarter like he did last sunday bastard
I'd like to base his resume off of the playoff game too, but I can't. He did some pretty good things out there in San Diego. We'll find out in a few years if he's the real deal or not.
Hmm. This seems like a good move for them. I really wanted them to hire Shula's kid so they would fail for sure. I still think we should sweep these losers again next year.
Mangini inherited an even worse situation here last offseason. It'd be stupid for Jet fans to laugh at this hiring knowing that everyone laughed at Mangini getting hired last offseason in an even worse situation.
Cameron went 18-37 at Indiana from 1997-2001. He was 12-28 in Big Ten games. 1997: 2-9 (1-7) 1998: 4-7 (2-6) 1999: 4-7 (3-5) 2000: 3-8 (2-6) 2001: 5-6 (4-4) Of course, nobody wins there. Last time they had a head coach with a plus .500 career mark was Bo McMillin. He was the coach from 1934-47. Lee Corso and Sam Wyche were among the losers. Cameron was preceded by Bill Mallory, who was actually pretty good. Mallory coached Indiana for 13 years and was only one game under .500 and that's with having an 0-11 season to start off his career at IU. Mallory took the team to six bowls. Cameron was unable to get the program back to those levels. I don't know whether or not his suspect coaching performance at Indiana might indicate he will be bad with the Dolphins. It's something to consider, at least.
Very good point. I just think the way the search went for their coach, and how long it took, coupled with the fact that they hired a DC that interviewed for the HC job before they hired a coach makes for a very wierd scene. I remember how Donnie H interviewed for the job and when Mangini was hired there was no way DH could stay. The word is now their even straping him with Shula as OC. This situation reeks of a power struggle down the line. I think there is a major difference in talent though. The Jets were a kick away from the AFC title game a year before they imploded with injuries. I think the Dolphins are bereft of talent which contributed to 2 bad seasons out of the last 3.
I think a bigger inditement was his coaching performance on Sunday.... after that I wouldn't hire him to be dog catcher
Yes, that was pretty bad. Also, relative to most other teams, it can't be too difficult to coach the Chargers offense. Heck, Rich Kotite could probably coach that unit and find success.
Kotite? Let's not go overboard... That's a guy who went 1-15 with basically the same player Parcells went 9-7 with
