I said this in another thread but Cam Newton is a former league MVP and still only 32 years old. And we've got 10x more pure WR talent than what N.E had last year and a better staple of RBs too. Imo Cam Newton as our veteran backup is a NO BRAINIER!
I think they released him because he wants to start. Not sure there are any openings though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I totally disagree with you here. Cam Newton has ZERO value for Wilson. He has a history of character issues and is looking to start on a roster. He also has a lot of concerns with his anti-vaccine approach which could put the team at risk. This makes absolutely no sense, whatsoever, for the Jets to go after him. Cam Newton does not match the player Joe Douglas looks for in drafts and free agency. Honestly, I think this is a wasted conversation because I do not think Joe Douglas goes anywhere near him.
He has no character issues only as a kid back in 2008 was he arrested as a kid in college and 13 years later people still judge him because of it; despite being a model citizen ever since and awesome within his community too (especially with kids). And he's been a pretty damn good QB too. Career NFL highlights and awards. Nuts.
Colin Cowherd must be going nuts now... just yesterday he was saying the Pats don't have time to waste experimenting with Mac Jones in September, and he'd start Cam.
No not really. He’s no longer very good at football anymore. That should be plenty enough reason for him to a non starter. Not sure if unsubstantiated claims about his character is needed.
The football argument doesn't make much sense to me. Cam Newton is either the 1st guy ever to have his skills erode at age 32 .... or... he was cut for some other reason
By cutting Newton now the Pats have saved 1.5m https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...gland-patriots-cut-cam-newton-mac-jones-start If they had decided to go with Mac Jones, then perhaps decided to take the cash saving. Also I wonder if Cam Newton was prepared to play back up to a rookie?
What character issues? Let's start with Dudley Do-Right Then there's Madea And who could forget the mountain climber from The Price is Right
I watched a lot Patriots games last year, he was not very good for them. Left a ton of points on the field, bad decisions with ball, preferred to run when he had opportunities to pass. He cost them wins, it’s no surprise Cam was cut. Bill brought in a ton of quality players to support Mac Jones development and give him some tools to work with. I will be very surprised if Jets make attempt to bring in Cam.
