People, let's all stop overreacting and drop the SOJ bullshit. How many people thought we were running the table after the Titan win last week??? Most of us had the Jets going 4-1 down the stretch and going 12-4. I still see that. And as for people saying the Jets blew the 2 seed yesterday . . . The steelers still play Dallas and both the ravens and titans on the road. If they lose 2 of those games and we win our remaining four games, (certainly not impossible) then we are the 2 seed. If not, then we are the three seed. For now let's worry about beating SF next week and wrapping up the division in the next few weeks. We SHOULD win every game remaining on our schedule. I didn't see us winning 10 in a row to end the season. We lost 1 after winning 5 straight and 7 out of 8. We executed terribly yesterday. It happens. Let's not lose perspective after 1 bad loss.
I'm going to coin a new acronym: SOJF Same Old Jets Fans Describing characteristic: manic-depressive. Post incessently about #1 seed and superbolw the week after a big win, then after a big loss the following week, posts theat we're gonna end up 9-7 and miss playoffs completely, or about that we should have benched Favre at the half and put in Raitliff instead, or that we are the worst, or the second worst, team in the worst division in the NFL. Yes, all three of those suggestions have been posted in the last 24 hours ...
my thoughts exactly....you could have to live with a bills fan like I do and watch the go from 5-1 to 6-6....and now i have something to look forward to each week and i can have the last laugh over my husband the bills fan....i am certainly not giving up hope after the loss yesterday it was destined to happen and it did..so as far as im concerned i am still loving my team!!!!!:jets:
A true voice of reason...Personally I had them at 3-2 down the stretch, winning the division at 11-5. If that happens it would be amazing. People...we were 4-12 last year!! Wake up and stop crying! Yesterday sucked...and I was as pissed as the next fan but come on!! Every team has a clunker... Learn from it, be pissed for a few hours and look ahead to beating the Niners. The Jets MUST focus cause this one could be scary. I predict a win but with the way our pass D has been I see Martz having this Hill kid throw the ball all over the yard. Martz's offensive style is perfectly suited to chew up defense like ours.
When did I say, or even IMPLY, that I enjoyed yesterday. I was depressed beyond belief yesterday. I felt that the Jets blew a golden opportunity to attain a commanding lead in the division and put themselves in position to be the favorite for the 2 seed. What was particularly disturbing was how badly our usually stout run defense played. I thought our tackling was atrocious. I thought our receivers collectively had their worst game of the season. (Cotchery was particulary bad) I thought the only 2 units that played well were the O-line and the Running backs. (Leon and TJ both were quite good). Our execution sucked yesterday. Plain and simple.
I'm not worried about running the table. But I am worried we only ran TJ 16 times, and only ran 19 times total in the game. And Leon only touched the ball five times on offense.
I'm glad there is outside perspective looking in on our situation, such as Packer fans like yourself. Its good to see that someone outside the asylum can look in and laugh at the absurdity. SOJF - I like it. I guess thats what I was trying to say in a couple of posts. I kept saying how the minute success is dented with an ounce of failure its all over and we should go home now. That is not the mentality of a winner. Winners would be looking at this game against SF as the revenge game for what happened on sunday.
I don't think a packer fan should be talking smack about jets fans--my opinion. How 'bout someone goes to the pack board and defines some of them as SOBFF (same old BF fans)--those who can't let go of BF? I don't think it would be appreciated. It is a funny point but it should be made by a Jets fan.
Anytime I see rain and especially rain and a temperature in the low 40's that's a recipe for a sloppy game! I look at this as a well needed loss. Id rather loose now then in the playoffs against a team that would take advantage of our weakness and end our chances. The big test will be this week. If The 49er's spread us out and pick us apart , then you will have the blue print for the remainder of the year.
I think it's cool that a team that really does not have a strong history of winning has such die hard fans... that continue to be fans after a barrage of letdowns. I always think positive about the Jets, and last night's lost sucked, but there is something to take away from it other than another L. But there are a lot of guys, and I am sure it's the same for all teams, that they come out of hiding after a loss to declare all is lost, and then slowly back away until they are gone again by Wednesday, waiting for the next eruption to ensue.
Exactly we beat an amazing Pittsburg team last year in a bad weather game. I doubt Steeler nation thought the world had ended. (Maybe for a day) Bad weather makes it anyones game....
Here's how I see it. Most of you aren't even close to being old enough to understand what it is to suffer through losing for 40 years so really your opinions and self appointed resident shrink status have no meaning to anyone.
I don't know how old you are and I really don't care. Age has NOTHING to do with objective observation and logic. And those are the only two things I try to base my opinions on. Am I wrong sometimes? Constantly. Does the fact that I'm in my early twenties mean that I have a different outlook on the team than an older fan such as yourself might have? Of course. I admit, I'm a more positive Jets fan than most. And I also admit that I think some of the older fans are illogical about their pessimism, because in my opinion, pessimism based on the performances of players and coaches who are no longer on the team is illogical beyond belief. But of course, I appreciate that you feel differently because of YOUR PERSEPCTIVE and I respect your opinions. I really think you should respect mine.
I can't respect somebody's opinion if they judge me and my beliefs just due to my age... that's ridiculous. Someone who has been watching for 50 thinks you are a joke then. I am in my mid 20s, I've been a jets fan for around 20 years. So I can only experience the "live emotion" we experience watching games in that span. I still know the Jets haven't won a Superbowl since III, and the constant let down before I was watching them. I don't think there is anyone on this site that thinks the "SOJ" slogan people throw around is only as old as their tenure as a Jets fan. Look at it this way if you only compare yourself to people who are of your age.
I am a Jets fan. I have watched every game & followed the team closely in between games. If you don't want to acknowledge that, then I invite you to TAFFAARD. However, yes, I do have an extra perspective of being a long time fan of another team. Which gives me some insight to note the perversity of many Jets fans on this board, that may not be unique to Jets fans, but certainly is a lot more common, frequent, and ANNOYING than I have seen in other fanbases. SOJF Syndrome. Known cures: none. Opportunities for remission: off season.
I agree with the title of this thread. Calm down, is right. If we learned anything from yesterday, is that this team, personnel wise or coaching wise, is not good enough to look past anyone or put it in cruise control. Let's take one game at a time see how the rest of the season develops before expressing concerns about playoff seeding. Yesterday was a hiccup but we won five straight, let's get the next one.....
I've gotten an interesting perspective from a Ravens fan I work with. He compares Jets fans with Boston (in particular Red Sawx) fans. Neither fan base can enjoy a winning season because they know that something is going to go wrong. There are phantom "curses" that haunt the fan bases. To boot there is the un-natural fixation on all things Patriot. The idea that somehow the Pats have some magical power over the Jets goes well beyond a reasonable rivalry. His observation that anyone, at this point in particular, can think the Jets suck or are a bad team is that those people are delusional. I think, but am not sure, that he doesn't completely understand how much of an insult such a comparison is to a NYer but either way he doesn't care. In his view this SOJ mentality is pure pathology. In a way this outside observation is eye opening, if somewhat shocking to the system.
I would love the full diagnosis on the SOJF syndrome. Maybe the conclusion could be --- Acting like this isn't a fanbase deserving of anything.
