Every now and then it's necessary to fire-up one of these threads to coax newer or quieter posters to chime in. A good way for people to jump into Jets discussion prior to the season. Also, these threads seem to keep jaywayne12 occupied, and that's just as important - idol hands, and all. Post your thoughts on any or all of the following questions, or just comment on something that someone else may have posted. You're allowed to change your mind - as soon as next week, if you like. No right or wrong answers. Unless jay says so. _______________________________________________________ (1) After one preseason game and a few short weeks of practice, what are your initial thoughts on the Jets going into the 2006 season? (2) If we're really going to do this "rebuilding" thing, just how much patience do you have, and when would it be trying on your patience? (3) What would you consider a successful 2006 season? (4) If the Jets were only to win ONE game, which game would you most want to win and why?
I’ll start: (1) After one preseason game and a little over two weeks of practice, what are your initial thoughts on the 2006 Jets, and where you'd like to see them at the end of the season? I’m encouraged by two things. First, I have to say, I’m cautiously optimistic about our quarterbacks; much moreso than I thought I would be. If Chad can stay healthy, and Kellen Clemens can progress, I’d like to think we could be in pretty decent shape in a couple years. The other thing that encourages me is harder to describe. It’s more of a feel of things. This team feels like it’s “all business,” and I really can’t remember having that feeling before. At least not since the late 1990’s. It could be that this all turns out to be smoke and mirrors, but the question was, “after one preseason game and two weeks of practice,” and given those limited parameters (which, admittedly, I set), that’s my answer and I’m sticking to it. (2) If we're really going to do this "rebuilding" thing, just how much patience do you have, and when would it be trying on your patience? I can survive for two years. But I’ll tell you what will make be blow: If the Bills, led by a no-talent J.P. Losman, a ne’er do well head coach, and two liver-spotted old men, show faster progress than the Jets, THEN I’ll start breathing fire. I can’t even bring myself to hate the Bills, but I’d use their progress as a measure of ours. Beyond that, if this whole “New England Project” that we’ve got going on turns out to not be so easy to clone, there’s one thing that concerns me, and I haven’t heard it discussed just yet. We know that Pioli and Belichick are great friends, and their relationship has worked well for them. But it should. They’ve been winning, and Belichick is the boss. My concern is that, if Mangini can’t bring the same successful rebuilding to the Jets, will Tannenbaum have (a) the experience, and (b) the stones to recognize the time to pull the chord on his friend. Just a stray concern of mine: that our head football/business guy might not “know-what-he-don’t-know,” and might give consideration to friendship where business sense should rule. (3) What would you consider a successful 2006 season? An 8-8 season would have me soiling myself come January. Plus, I’d be real happy with it. (4) If the Jets were only to win ONE game, which game would you most want to win and why? I really do want to say the December Miami game. At Miami. There’s nothing quite like beating the Dawlpfinz in front of their 12,000 screaming Pfinz pfanz. HOWEVER, I’ve got to look at the bigger picture. We play the Oakland Loons on New Year's Eve and, when we win, we’ll have all of 2007 to needle Raiderjeaux. Plus, it’s the last game of the season, and that’s just a real swell way to close out 2006. Beyond that, the whole final six weeks of the season is set up real nicely for a team on the rebuilding trail. Houston, Green Bay, Buffalo, Minnesota, followed by Miami and Oakland – three very mediocre teams, followed by two better, but not great, teams. It just seems to set up well for us to close out the year.
{1} I think the Jets this season will fight and fight really hard. There will be a lot less mistakes by the players and coachs. If they play hard they got a chance to win any game. {2} I think this "rebuilding" thing is stupid. Tell me, how many times have we try rebuilding? And, when we last won a Super Bowl? Just go into every season expecting at least playoffs and you will have a better chance at winning the Super Bowl then rebuilding from time to time. Because rebuilding doesn't mean you will win when you are all built up. I'm not going to be patience about this because we have been for a very long time. {3} I will not be happy with anything less then going in the playoffs and when we get to the playoffs I expect Super Bowl. I will not sit here and say I will be happy with a few wins. But if our Offense and Defense shows for great things to come, I guess it would somewhat be a successful season. {4} I couldn't careless. But if I had to pick, I would pick the easiest team in on the schedule. No reason, just because I don't care what team they beat because they are 1-15 it doesn't matter what team they beat!!!!!
(1) After one preseason game and a few short weeks of practice, what are your initial thoughts on the Jets going into the 2006 season? That this team is not very good, and the new people running the show have a long way to go before this is a top-level organization. I think they are on the right track, but the learning curve will be a steep one. You can't put inexperienced people in all levels of your organization and expect them to know exactly how things should be done right the first time. Watching someone else do it and doing it yourself are two entirely different levels of competence. Take the draft: the 2 top selections were really no-brainer safe picks. I am very happy with our 2 new linemen (2 years too late ) but the rest of the draft confounds me. Where are the starters past round 1?...and the surrounding of the HC with yes-men is a scary thought for me. Say what you will about Bradway, he did surround his new, inexperienced HC with (at the time) top-shelf veteran NFL coaches. This time around, the organization took one look at Mangini and assume he has a handle on everything and doesn't need any help. So many on his staff are very new to coaching and first-time coordinators...If he doesn't live up to the billing of the second-coming of Belichick, it will be in large part due to the inexperience of those around him. So I don't take an optomistic view of this season in any way. That was the big reason I liked the Suggs trade: I figured we would still be drafting a RB high next year regardless. So Its not like if he sucked, (and apparently, he still does) we would be stuck with him. But come on, now: waiting until the last minute to try and get a starting RB for week one and you're already in the preseason?! Inexperience, hopefully, and not a sign of future incompetence. (2) If we're really going to do this "rebuilding" thing, just how much patience do you have, and when would it be trying on your patience? Sunday, I have all the patience in the world for this season. I have had zero enthusiasm for this coming year in Jets football for months now. Once I saw, like I said, the inexperienced staff coming in, and the very few changes in FA...I knew it was gonna be a long season. I plan on waiting it out and hope for a contender by next season. By then, the CS will have a year under their belts and the O-line and defense will be settled into the new systems and ready to push for something. (and a possible new starter at QB) Then, a top-shelf RB will be the final missing piece to a championship puzzle. I am prepared to wait it out and take joy in the signs of improvement. (instead of getting excited and having my hopes crushed like so many of my fellow posters. Sorry guys, its the truth  ) (3) What would you consider a successful 2006 season? Winning a few games at the end of the season, maybe 4 out of the last 5-6. A turning of the corner and a sign of better things to come...next year. (4) If the Jets were only to win ONE game, which game would you most want to win and why? All I want for Christmas is to put my foot up a fish's ass! :finssuck:
New folks. . . but old and crusty are welcome, hike. And, I think I'm with you on this one. They didn't just find out about Curtis two weeks ago. I mean, he didn't even run the Santa Monica stairs and tell us he was in the best condition of his career this year (with a nod to winnie).
Maybe we should just call this a mediocre-before-we-hopefully-get-good year, and stash away the labels for the Lions and Cardinals to use. Either way, I've got to keep a glimmer of optimism. These days, I'm about a 5.75 on the Champ-O-Meter. That ain't so bad.
(1) After one preseason game and a few short weeks of practice, what are your initial thoughts on the Jets going into the 2006 season? I think we were the only team that didn't get the ball in the endzone in week one of the preseason, but you know how much that matters? NOT AT ALL. I loved the methodical decision my our coaching staff to use the game as a learning tool, which seems to be Mangini's thing. EVERYTHING is a lesson. By using the dink & dunk play calling it gave our offense something like 15 snaps in their first possession. With 2 rookies on the Oline, a QB coming off major rehab and an inexperienced offensive coordinator... I think this was pretty intelligent, every snap, every lesson and every bit of practice will contribute to the development of this team. I am not buying into the gripes that the dink & dunk is what we will be looking at all season. I think it was a means to an end, Mangini wanted those rookies on the line to get exposure to game speed. Plus, with all the 3 step drops - theoretically there shouldn't have been any hits on the QB. Which is a confidence builder for the whole unit. If Mangini continues to be as methodical as he has shown he is, our time will come. (2) If we're really going to do this "rebuilding" thing, just how much patience do you have, and when would it be trying on your patience? 3 years. They did better with the roster this year than I thought they would, but this season will be nothing but educational. 2007 will be the year that all the new blood assumes starting roles. 2008 is the year we become a dominant force in the AFC East, and hopefully the league. (3) What would you consider a successful 2006 season? 5 wins. 10 starts for Pennington, 6 for Kellen. Curtis Martin returns to play a few games, gets at least one 100 yard game. Penny doesn't get hurt and boosts his trade value, Ramsey learns how to be a #2 QB and Kellen looks better than Leinart. CMart retires with his head held high, not because of injury but because he is ready. We end up draft in the top 5, and selecting a stud RB or WR... or we trade back and stockpile picks for our 2008 SB run. (4) If the Jets were only to win ONE game, which game would you most want to win and why? Christmas @ Miami, because I hate the fucking Dolphins and its at the time of year where it could keep them out of the playoffs!
(3) What would you consider a successful 2006 season? If on a beautiful Sunday in October when it's about 75 degrees with no humidity I can actually sit inside and watch 3 hours of Jets football without feeling I would have had more fun cleaning out the gutters. This Shoty kid running the O scares the crap out of me. I'm worried we are not only going to be bad, we are going to be about as exciting as watching water boil.
AAAAHHHHH...my favorite...isnt it funny that this new thread comes about after a failed physical by Barry Sanders...umm..I mean Mr.Suggs. You know I love these Sunday...and yes...there are no right or wrong answers..unless we completely think you are off the wall..then this guy abyz comes out of the woodwork..sucks you up...and you end up in a fantasy football league on cbs sportsline. Regardless...look forward to the replies..and will be checking in around 10pm after my wifes kids...oops...my kids go to sleep. Just remember...because some of us have 2000 + posts..doesnt mean we know squat about football. We are like the kid with the big muscles that hangs out on the corner smoking a cig. while secretly, we are wearing womens underwear. good luck.

Which is a confidence builder for the whole unit. If Mangini continues to be as methodical as he has shown he is, our time will come. I think this an excellent way of looking at the first week..one which I personally didnt think of..and many around here probably didnt either. Reps was what its all about. The problem that many had with that first week was pretty simple. IT LOOKED SO FAMILIAR. Your analysis should ease some minds if its true. We shall see (2) If we're really going to do this "rebuilding" thing, just how much patience do you have, and when would it be trying on your patience? 3 years. They did better with the roster this year than I thought they would, but this season will be nothing but educational. 2007 will be the year that all the new blood assumes starting roles. 2008 is the year we become a dominant force in the AFC East, and hopefully the league. 3 years is asking a lot from Jet fans...but that has to be the goal. Excellent points. Something deep down inside me hopes for a surprise next year..perhaps even a failed attempt at a playoff position...or even a successful....ahhhh...that might be pushing it. (3) What would you consider a successful 2006 season? 5 wins. 10 starts for Pennington, 6 for Kellen. Curtis Martin returns to play a few games, gets at least one 100 yard game. The only part about this I dont get is the Curtis Martin part..love the guy..I cant see him playing a down helping the team at all. Now if you want to see him go out in style..Im sure thats what you mean. Pennington 10 Kellen 6 would be a nice score. If that comes true, the Pennington ere comes to an end this year. If you are going to start the kid down the stretch..theres no turning back unless the kid flops like a pancake. (4) If the Jets were only to win ONE game, which game would you most want to win and why? Christmas @ Miami, because I hate the fucking Dolphins and its at the time of year where it could keep them out of the playoffs![/QUOTE] Toss up for me...dolphins..patriots..lets put it this way..if a win over the dolphins kills their playoff hopes..its a no brainer. Great post..but you are always a great poster...just like HIKER above..reviewing the both of you is like a state trooper being pulled over by a security guard at Macy's.
1) After one preseason game and a few short weeks of practice, what are your initial thoughts on the Jets going into the 2006 season? At least when penningtion gets hurt, we have a rookie to build around, or at least watch grow, and I think we will see more 4-3 this season then evrybody expects. Be cause the 3-4 with robertson at nose is not going to work. (2) If we're really going to do this "rebuilding" thing, just how much patience do you have, and when would it be trying on your patience? this year they get better and more competitive every week, dont hve to win. but next year,if we have a QB, I want wins, because if they do not improve in 2 years, then we dont have the right personel making draft decisions. (3) What would you consider a successful 2006 season? With penningtion all season, big if, 8-8or 9-7, . Clemens playing 5-9 or 6-10 (4) If the Jets were only to win ONE game, which game would you most want to win and why? dolphins, because evryone thinks there shit dont stink this year, and I want to see them fall flat on there faces
(1) After one preseason game and a few short weeks of practice, what are your initial thoughts on the Jets going into the 2006 season? It's weird getting used to watching the Jets run the 3-4. It's nice that Herm is gone. VERY little depth on offence - we need Coles to play like the number one he can be, and McCareins needs to play at the number four guy level he's capable of. The RB situation is scary at best - especially without Martin. The QBs looked decent all around - if they were surrounded by some playmakers, I think they could probably all look better than average. (2) If we're really going to do this "rebuilding" thing, just how much patience do you have, and when would it be trying on your patience? If we had a horrible "rebuilding" year, and didn't draft a blue chip offensive playmaker, I might smash my head into the wall until it bled. But I'll still be green and white forever. So I suppose I have limitless patience but a limited amount of blood. (3) What would you consider a successful 2006 season? Beating the Dolphins twice. Even if our record was 2-14. Please just beat the Dolphins. I'd also like to see some disappointing guys develop a bit - Robertson especially. Oh - and to wear my Vilma jersey to watch a game at a bar up here (Edmonton, Canada) and NOT have someone tell me "There's no 'Vilma' on the Saskatchewan Roughriders". Because the poor delusional CFL-loving fans up here honestly see a Jets jersey and assume it's a Sakatchewan jersey. And then I cry. And smash my head into a wall until it bleeds. (4) If the Jets were only to win ONE game, which game would you most want to win and why?[/B] Either Dolphins game. But, if they only won one of those games, it would be an unsuccessful season by my measure. So one win is not an option. :finssuck: :finssuck: :finssuck: :finssuck:
1. They will suck...regardless of what happened in the preseason game the fact is they have absolutely no threats on offense. They have no receivers that demand double coverage, and no running back that forces the D to drop another man in the box. Also it doesn't help that the Jets best offensive player (Chode) is only good for about 8-9 games a season anyway. 2. Well, I'm a Bills fan(going on almost 20 years now), and I've been too patient. This team has drained my optimistic nature. This is the first year I've ever NOT anticipated the football season. The Bills will suck, and the future looks like more of the same suck. 3. for the Jets: 6-10 for the Bills: 9-7 4. the answer for both the Jets and Bills would be: the fins
Hey Sunday..this nightshift is tough man. Why do I have visions of you getting free lapdances, promising a nice little blonde with huge breasts that you will take 4 points off her driving record. Welcome aboard skoobz2001!! First it should be noted to all newcomers that the reason we respond is because we love having new Jet fans come aboard. Please dont take our repsonses as a holy than thou attitude. We are all frustrated Jet fans...thats the bottom line...and this is a great place to stay updated...and vent...yes..VENT. 1.Have to totally agree with you. That first quarter..watching us in a 3-4...I needed a beer..and my blankey. I was really uncomfortable watching it. It looked so good when other teams ran it against us...but wow..hey..its new...it will come around. Coles really does need to step it up..and if we are looking for JM to be a good "4th", Cotch better become a number 2 fast. 2. Never fun looking at the season knowing that the biggest thing to come out of it is where we will be next year come draft day. It is what it is. Progress...watching the offensive line..or at least the two guys drafted make their mark. Seeing if the defensive leftovers (Ellis, Robertson, Barton, Thomas, Miller, Rhodes etc) just underachieved because of the system (or lack of one) they were in. 3 of those guys have to shine and I mean really shine..or we will be talking about a mini rebuild of the defense too..and that my friend makes this a 3 to 4 year plan. Vilma was a really good player...can he dominate a game? Thats what I want to see...win or lose. 3. Im a bit worried about all the bleeding (your blood)..regardless...you might want to wear a helmet when watching at least the first half of the season. I am no longer allowed access to the remote control. First it was my wife...and now cablevision looks at me funny on monday mornings in October (yeah..they look at me funny for requesting another remote...but they are OK taking a check from that piece of crap owner they work for). 4. Amazing...the Patriots have won 13 superbowls in the last 5 years (it does feel like that no?) yet Miami is the big winner so far..Im with you. Welcome aboard again..and I better see you posting around here more!! good thoughts.
The thing about the New England project that makes me nervous is that we might just be giving the Pats next coach on the job training right now. If Mangini goes 3 years and out with the Jets and then turns up back in New England as the DC it'll really piss me off. Especially if he's the head coach the next season when Belichik finally retires.
wait a minute...wait a minute..WAIT A MINUTE. ALMOST 2500 POSTS...and I know you well buddy!! Hey...you're a great poster...a bills fan..but a great poster (that SUNDAYJACK fella...he goes to sleep at 8 and wakes up at 8..damn government jobs...I got to get me one). 1. What can I say..it is what it is...but we did draft a potential..POTENTIAL...40% of the offensive line that might be here for the next decade..or the next cap casuality. Wide Receiver and RB is where the money needs to be spent...agreed. 2. Not going to touch that one...you did a fine job. 3. You might want to reread your post number 2...9-7? Just wouldnt surprise me if the Jets did a little hop skip and a jump...passed go...collected $200 right over the Bills very very soon. Bringing back Marv was a decision that even you must scratch your head about. I wouldnt be crazy about whats going on up there right now...but as a Jet fan...we can only whisper these things. 4. fins huh...damn fins...I wonder if a lot of the hatred for the fins is because of blitzkrieg...the poster. He seems like a nice guy...no? Keep the faith buddy!!
Crazy possibility..but the Browns did the same with BB. Who would have ever thought BB would be a great coach after that fiasco. Looking down the pike...wondering if this learning on the job by EM will one day benefit someone else down the road isnt as crazy as it seems.
I'm confused.............. what's wrong with womens under wear????? I had to miss game 1 because of work and Im not really into taping then watching pre-season games. -_-
