This is exactly why Sam is not the answer: -A great QB elevates the talent -A great QB changes culture -A great QB improves at a faster rate -A great QB has the personality to handle the bumps in the road All things Burrow shows and Sam has not. Coaching is 100% a factor as well--but even so, there is no excuse for the major difference between Burrow and Sam. Also one QB on his third year and other in his first. Stop using the age thing as an excuse.
A couple of things. I believe Burrow has a stable offensive line. When I do see him, he seems to have a pocket to stand in and survey the field. He also has way more talent around him as we probably have the least amount of talent in the NFL around Darnold. If you put Burrow or Josh Allen on the Jets, they would bust imo. Also as we have seen, Trubisky is done and Wentz is also a bust. Not easy to get a franchise QB.
We need Lawrence because Sam's rookie contract is close to expiring and he hasn't shown enough to warrant the type of money QB's are getting these days.
Depending how the season goes but I think if Sam plays ok and controls the INTs yet we go 0-16 or whatever I think he still gets a good incentive laden deal
Jameis Winston is getting paid 1.1 million this year with up to 3.4 million in incentives that he isn't going to get. That's with a career passer rating of 86.9. Darnold's, albeit on a significantly worse team, is 79.6. Darnold isn't likely to get paid much of anything.
Dude. Have you watched the Bengals at all? Burrow's offensive line is the worst in football. He's gotten absolutely destroyed several times this year. He does not have a stable offensive line whatsoever. He has better receivers but he doesn't have Sterling Sharpe and Randy Moss out there. He's far better than Darnold was at the same point in their careers.
No, pretty sure Sam would do fine if there was ANY talent around him. But there isn't. And Trevor Lawrence would be a waste of a draft pick.
we all know Flacco isnt great but after a half of football when you look at the stats from today - 9/19 for 59yds and an interception - this maybe, just maybe, suggests that the issues with this team are on more than just the play of Darnold and that no QB coming into this mess is going to fix it
The Bengals’ OL is awful. Most of what he has done has been all Burrow. It’s why Mixon only put up stats against the Jaguars.
Wouldn't call Wentz anything near a bust. He's had a very productive career thus far. Jets are probably the only team in the NFL with a worse receiving corps.
