Free-agent quarterback Byron Leftwich has agreed to a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a source told ESPN's Michael Smith.

The Washington Redskins and Pittsburgh Steelers also were interested in Leftwich, who joins a depth chart in Tampa that includes Luke McCown, Josh Johnson, and Brian Griese.

Leftwich, 29, a first-round draft pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars out of Marshall in 2003, won a Super Bowl ring last season as a backup with the Steelers.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder has started just eight games since 2006, his last season with the Jaguars. He played for the Atlanta Falcons in 2007.

Leftwich passed for 303 yards with two touchdowns in five appearances with the Steelers last season as Ben Roethlisberger's backup.

    SHIT!!!...that's horrible news.

I was hoping the Bucs would be the team that would trade up to grab Josh Freeman ahead of us in the draft.....this signing defenitly hampers that scenario.

are we REALLLY THIS CONFIDENT with KC and Brett Ratliff?

I really dont want Jeff Garcia, and its not like were going to get stafford so theres no better rookie option.

    shit, i forgot about that.

I guess having 8 career starts between your guys isnt seen as a problem?

I'm not saying bring in a guy with expierence to start but, Noone can honestly say they know what ANY of the 3 guys on the roster is capable of, what if its game 8 and they all suck, its not like we have that veteran we can bring in off the bench

Um, yeah I think we are. It might be misguided but I really think we are that confident in KC and Ratliff. I mean all the organization has done is say we are sticking with our guys, and the only action they really have made to say or show otherwise, is we threw our hat in the ring for Cutler. Reports also have stated we weren't serious about giving up that kind of value, so it really wasnt much of a inclination. So yeah I mean, I really think we are going to run with KC/ Ratty this year.

Next year is the year to get a QB if you need one anyways. So better to wait a year, knowing next year will be littered with prospects at least with the upside of Freeman, and potentially even better, Remember Bradford was supposed to be the top pick this year had he come out. Then of course the controversial guys in Mccoy and Tebow as well.

Mark Sanchez is a better rookie option than Matt Stafford.

Do you mean he's gonna be better as a rookie or the cost to move up for Stafford would be too astronomical for it to be worth it?

There's no way Tampa is going to keep all those QB's on the roster. I wonder who they'll let go?

If it's game 8 and they all suck, we suck it up and get ready for Sam Bradford. I doubt anyone but the usual whiners will be complaining by that point, though. If we get a good receiver in or before the draft, I think our QBs are going to surprise some people.

so your saying we just throw the season?

If its like game 8 and were 2-6, as a jet fan would you really want to just throw in the towel, especially with a d thats as good as i think it can be, we could be in the playoff hunt with very mediocre qb play.

    Yes.

If Filthy Sanchez is off the board at 17, we're good to go.

Take Jarron Gilbert, and be done with it.

    Dude..don't over think it.

    We already field two things.

The best rushing attack in the AFC. And the Best all purpose player in the NFL.

You, or I could play QB and throw 5 yard screen passes and short outs and give the team a chance.

Neither one of us has been preparing as long as the two guys the have now.

And to be honest Clemens played well for what he had to work with. Think Drew Brees...

You're right, we should have gone out and gotten Leftwich, the one guy whose throwing motion is slower than Chad's.

When did I suggest throwing the season? I said I think our QBs are going to surprise some people. If we start off 2-6, we don't need to tank the season to be in position for Bradford. If they suck as badly as you seem to think they will, we'll be in position to move on Bradford anyway. Go ahead and bitch about how they're going to destroy this team with subpar QB play. I'll get ready for a decent to breakout season.
