I hope this isn't a bad thread, but I haven't seen much of the preseason. How does BT look? I think he may be the key to the defense. He needs to stay healthy for us to be dominant.

Looks exactly the same to me. Plays the run very well. Smart player doesn't really wow you but does his job. Is good at sealing the run on the outside.

Thought he did his job rather well. He's not gonna jump off the screen as much anymore. But definitely a savvy vet.

We surely got our moneys worth out of that pick! Might not hear his name called, but will do his job and let maybin or coples get some press!

Thomas's Jet career has been fascinating to watch unfold, to say the least. From a guy I remember Jabba the Jet and a couple others absolutely raving about, to a complete and utter bust (cactus) to a break out player in his contract year, to a instant regression, to becoming a solid linebacker for a few years.

*not throwing Jabba under the bus, really like his draft analysis, it's just what I remember*

Yes, very inconsistent. I don't think he ever played at a bust level. There were years he could have done better but even his worst seasons were at average level. I don't think he'l has much left though and will be used on maybe half the snaps this year.

it's actually not a bad thread...i cant recall one play from him and often asked myself if he was playing.

my take on his career is anyone who sticks that long with a team as a starter delivered his value.

Yeah, he's one of the few legitimate busts to make good with the same team.

If the Jets don't go 3-4 in 2006 and 2007 Thomas is probably out of the NFL. With the move to LB he instead becomes a decent player verging on good in his best seasons.

He's still a total waste of a 1st round pick but the Jets didn't come up empty in the end. Very rare when that happens.

I'd put losing Thomas to IR last year in with the top 3 reasons why we didn't make the playoffs last year. Whoever we put back there just never seemed to cut it after he went down.

He's not the passrusher he was drafted to be in 02, but has proved his worth in the decade since as a run stopper and gap sealer. At $1m/per, we have good value here. He wants to be a Jet, and has locker room respect.

He was the one his rookie season who lost all the weight because he didn't know how to feed himself, correct?

Solid, if unspectacular, player. Can't hate on the guy after all this time.

Definitely not a waste of a first round pick considering he's given us 3 or 4 very serviceable seasons.

    Good thread PJ.

BT absolutely IS the key. He's the only guy on his side that can stop the run both inside and outside.

BT is the man who will allow Coples and Wilk to reek havoc on 3rd and 6 all season long.

Without BT, our Defense will be facing a lot more 3rd and 1, which could be run OR pass, which neutralizes or even eliminates our blitz attack.

With BT and Pace healthy, Coples and Wilk should make the pro bowl!!!!

That's not what you look for out of a first round pick. First round picks are supposed to start season 1 or season 2 at the outside for a few positions. They're supposed to contribute from day 1 unless they're a QB or maybe WR. They're supposed to give you good value for the pick.

Thomas was of no value at all to the Jets until 2006. He wasn't ghost bad but he was not making plays for the team either. He's only been decent value since then although he had a prime season or two where he was a good player for them.

I thought he sucked but he has become a solid role player over the years.

BT wasn't really a bust, he was stuck on the depth chart behind John Abraham.

You can question the wisdom of the pick.

But when he was asked to step in and start foe Abe on the playoff run -- that ended in Pittsburgh under Edwards, he played really well.

BT is the ultimate Jet. Any time a pick ends up with your team as long as BT has, it was not a waste. He is probably the most respected guy in the locker room and I have no problems with him at all.

He looks like his old self, stout against the run, not great in the passing game.

I think he will be a big part of the base package, but becasue of all the things we will be doing on defense he may only see about 50% of the snaps this year. I don't thik he sees time in the nickle, big nickle, or dime. In a 43 front I think Pace and Maybin get the nod over him at the ends. He is a good run stopping 34 LB for now but near the end of the line.
