http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2009/08/cleveland_browns_release_defen.html He's a big lineman who could add some much needed depth to the d-line. He's quick enough to play end and strong enough to provide a better back-up to Jenkins than Pouha. I'm not really concerned about the off-the-field issues, I've wanted to punch Brady Quinn in the face so many times now.
with the latest injury to jenkins, smith could be insurance. jenkins durability has always been a question for me. the guy is dominant when hes healthy. he definitely took a few games off towards to the end of last season. if smith is worth a look im sure rex ryan will give him one.
read the article... if he's not willing to do drills and be a douche to his coaches there is no room for him on any team. He seems to be a total pain in the ass.
They must have updated the article since I posted it since the link is completely different. Still, can you really blame someone for not wanting to play for Mangini? I'd be for bringing him in and giving him a tryout.
I'd be willing to take a chance on him. We need D line depth. Yea he was not exactly good in his last pratice with the browns, but we've seen how Mangini can suck the fun out of football. I'd love to give Rex a chance with a guy like him.
Ryan would have a field day with this guy. He can play NT and DE so just imagine him, Ellis, and Jenkins on the same line. That's a lot of DL for the offense to move around which would just about make our LBs unstoppable. Gholston would look all-pro lining up behind them.
Quote: Cleveland Browns release defensive lineman Shaun Smith by By Mary Kay Cabot Saturday August 08, 2009, 9:58 AM PD File Shaun Smith, who was involved in an altercation last season with Brady Quinn, has been released by the Cleveland Browns. Browns defensive lineman Shaun Smith, who was heading into his third year with the team, was released Saturday, a source close to the situation said. No reason was given for his ouster, the source said. Smith (6-2, 325 lbs.) was a versatile lineman who could play end or nose tackle. He appeared in 11 games last season with nine starts. He totaled 47 tackles, including 22 solo. But Smith's on-the-field accomplishments were overshadowed by a run-in with quarterback Brady Quinn in the weight room, during which Smith reportedly punched Quinn in the face. Smith's representatives met with the Browns at the NFL Combine in February to determine whether or not the Browns wanted to keep him in light of the incident. They were told the Browns were prepared to move forward with Smith. Smith, one of the most vocal players on the team, was signed by the Browns as an unrestricted free agent in March 2007 after spending two full seasons with the Bengals. http://www.cleveland.com/browns/inde...ase_defen.html "Vocal player". Right there, he and Mangini would not get along. Sound familiar? Sure he could help.
