Eric Mangini continues to pick through the Jets' cupboard. Today, the Browns hosted two Jets free agents - S Abram Elam and CB Hank Poteat, according to a league source.

Elam is a restricted free agent, but means the Jets have the right of first refusal. Because Elam was an undrafted free agent out of college and because he received the lowest tender possible ($1.01 million), the Jets aren't entitled to any draft-pick compensation if he goes elsewhere.

Elam was a clutch performer last season, making several big plays (just ask J.P. Losman), but he became a spare part when Rex Ryan signed former Ravens S Jim Leonhard to a three-year, $5.875 million contract.

Poteat is an unrestricted free agent, an extra DB who has survived in the league because of Mangini's affinity toward him.

To summarize, Mangini has signed one former Jet (DE C.J. Mosley) and is showing interest in four others - Elam, Poteat and LBs Eric Barton and David Bowens.

our JAGs on the Browns will not do as well... Mangini is Kotite, just like Herm was the chiefs kotite in the last two years.

Yes, the Jets pass defense was so good last year, I'd bring in as many of secondary as possible.

If Mangini wants Elam let him have him. He was what the article said last season. A clutch performer meaning he made like 3 or 4 big plays. But other then that he isnt anything special.

So Mangini thinks he can replace Sean Jones with Abram Elam? Good luck with that...

This Manretard is comical when he is doing this crap to someone else’s historically dysfunctional franchise.

I hope Elam bends him over the table and rapes him.

It's really not a big deal but I was kinda looking forward to seeing Elam rotate with Leonhard on situational plays. If Elam knows what's good for him, he should stay.

I was kinda hoping we'd re-sign Bowens for cheap tho. So that sucks.

It's amazing how Mangini continues to use his former teams' crap. When will he learn?

Mankok (mangini+kohkinos) is not doing themselves any favors... so typical. Sean Rogers anygry wants out, rumors of shopping Quinn, it just seems there's no plan. Just a quiet, smug arrogance, that fools you into thinking he knows what he's doing... but then it all comes out in the wash. And you lose to Miami. lol.

I guess Mangini hasn't learned that his D was one of the reasons he got canned. Browns fans are gonna love that prevent D.

Does he want to trade for Barton?

I?d like to see Poteat and Elam back, they provide good depth at a reasonable price. Same for Bowens if he?s willing to sign for vet minimum.

I thought Barton was a UFA now.

Barton is an UFA, and the Browns signed Poteat to a contract last night.

As for Elam, people have to realize he is restricted. The Jets have first refusal rights, meaning they can match any contract he is given. So unless the Browns overpay him, which is not impossible, the Jets will retain him.

Wait, didn't we resign Abram Elam to a two year deal this offseason?

Other teams can offer him contracts. However, we can have the final say and match any contract that is offered to him if we wish to retain him

I actuallly would like to Keep Elam. He's a cheap, useful player who has an affinity for making big plays. Yes, he is generally awful in coverage but, at his price/likely price, he is a good depth guy to keep around if at all possible.
