i know it's way too early for this, but this Offseason seems eternal...

since we've been talking about the Dolphins so much, I wanted to get y'alls IMpartial opinions of this match-up.

Will 'Brick shut down and bury Jason Taylor the two times they'll face each other?

Personally, I think 'Brick has the advantage because he excels in taking on speed rushers, due to his own quickness. the criticism he gets is from his lack of strength against bull-rushers, which Taylor primarily isn't.

Taylor obviously has the experience advantage 10-fold, but he'll now face a much better LT than he's had to face the past few years. however, we've heard that 'Brick is a relentless worker and very diligent when it comes to learning/studying the game. therefore, i think he'll be ready come time he goes up against Taylor.

    So what are y'alls thoughts?

    cheers

No...we don't even know if he's going to start on the left side yet.

Eventually he will, but I think we'll see him struggle from time to time, just because he's a rookie.

    really?

i assume using the 4th overall pick on him means he's starting as LT; else why would we draft him so early without the intention of starting him at his position?

    cheers

'DBrick will do fine most of the time but will sucome to rookie mistakes or from moves that he has never seen before. I think most DE's are looking forward to playing against him just due to the hype. I know I would be.

Taylor won't get shut down, but to put it all on Ferguson would be a mistake. In Taylor's 3 sack game last year, only 1 1/2 were on Jones at LT. Taylor stunted and ran right by Kendall at center on one sack. On another, Houston failed to pick Taylor up in pass protection, and ran into his outlet pattern, giving Taylor a clear lane to Bollinger. There was only one sack that Taylor cleanly beat Jones with an outside speed rush.

With Kendall back at LG, and either Teague or Mangold at center, Ferguson will get a lot more help. Houston's should be better at protection, and I don't think Mangini will put Ferguson on an island with no help, the way Herm did with Jones. Taylor remains the premier pass rusher in the NFL. I would also think the Jets would roll away from Taylor.... another thing Herm was too stupid to do.

If Taylor gets shut down, it will be because the team and the coaching did it, not because Ferguson will do it alone.

Taylor is on the back nine of his career. In two years, if D'Brick is playing LT then surely he will shut him down... The Dolphins missed the boat when they had those great defenses anchored by Zach, Taylor, Madison, and Surtain. If they only had a good QB those years than they would've beaten NE. Luckily for me, the Dolphins trotted out the fiddler game after game and we all know how that turned out.

I highly doubt he will "shut him down" his first season. He IS a rookie.

JMO NO. Watching the senior bowl and the trouble Dbrickshaw had with the countermove inside. (2 sacks) That guy that beat Dbrickshaw Ferguson , is not in J Taylor class as a pass rusher. I don't think Jets would let DBrickshaw Ferguson go man to man against Taylor(he would get help)
Dolphins play a 3-4 defense and J Taylor can come from anywhere. SO I don't know how many times he would actually go against Ferguson .

DBrichshaw Ferguson a very good looking prospect ,but hes going to need some time.(needs to work the kinks out of his game).

I don't know. Taylor rarely did anything vs. Fabini, who had more experience than d'Brick will have on day one but who is also less of an athlete than Ferguson is). I would say that d'Brick will hold his own, but Mangini won't put him in a position to fail by keeping a fullback in or by chipping Taylor with a TE.

Here's a new idea I think you'll see from the Jets this year: game planning for the individual opponent faced on a given Sunday.

I think he'll keep Taylor at bay. D'Brick excells against speed rushers.

Seymour is the one I'm worried about.

That's a lot of pressure to put on a rookie. Thats like taking a quarterback with the no. 4 pick and saying you will lead us to the SB. i think D'Brick will become a top shutdown LT however he is a rookie this year and he will take his lumps. He wont shut down Taylor this year however in another 2-3 years he will shut dwn people.

Yes, he will. Ferguson is built to block small speed rushers like Jason Taylor. Maybe I'm going out on a limb saying that, but players like him struggled all year against Ferguson, because he gets his base set up so quickly, and his long ass arms extended that you can't seperate from him at all.

Ferguson is a rookie. Taylor is a perenial Pro-Bowler. Saying that he better is just putting too much pressure on the guy. Remember D'brick could shut him down all game long, but make one bad read, Taylor runs by him, sacks the QB, and then all of a sudden Taylor had a good game.

It will be a good match up in the next couple of years. Kind of like Runyan vs. Strahan.

Yeah sometimes D'Brick will have good games agaisnt Taylor and then there will be games when taylor does good agaisnt D'Brick. But for like 85% of the Time i think D'Brick will be able to shut down taylor.

Since when do we pencil in draft picks as starters before training camp? if he sucks, he isn't starting. plain and simple. just because he's a #4 pick doesn't neccesarily mean he's starting. it means he's a good athlete and has very good potentional to be an NFL starter.
