Didn't see it posted any where, just heard on nfl network Adam Schefter says schotty will return for the jets next season as oc. I think this is good, ryan can now focus more on making our d elite. sorry no link, like i said just heard it on nfl network.

So, does he have only one year left on his contract?

So, 2 out of 3 phases of the team will remain intact. This will go a long way towards keeping us competitive next season. This is good news.

Yes it is. I think what would have swayed him would most likely be that hes (Rex) given Scotty FULL control of the O , of course I'm just speclating here.

Interesting that Tannenbaum wasn't involved. Just Ryan and Johnson. Doesn't mean anything, maybe he was just out of town but it is still interesting.

    http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/01/schottenheimer_likely_to_stay.html

"People close to Schottenheimer have said he's likely stay because he's under contract and is a man of integrity. Plus, Schottenheimer didn't have many attractive options: the Lions, the 49ers, the Raiders and the Chiefs."

lol..that certainly isn't a list of teams you would want to leave for.

Paving the way, nicely I think, for Callahan and his run first mentality to take over while maintaining the same system.

Yeah, interesting that Callahan was retained before they even spoke with Schottenheimer. They already had their guy if he said he was leaving.

All we need is competent QB play, we don't need a star just a nice game manager and we'll win alot of games. Our D has the talent to be a top D and I think our defensive staff will have them playing at a much higher level, we have goo RBs, good WRs, good OL, good TEs- all we need is competent QB play and we'll be a playoff contender.

So you're hoping Favre comes back then? Or that they make a trade?

WHile I think I'm starting to agree with you more about having a game manager, we still need someone that can stretch the field a little bit. We don't need the box stacked on every play. I'd take Rivers over Pennington any day.

But, regardless, they want an "all-weather" team. The question is, do they want a game manager or do they want someone that is a downfield threat as well, to help that ground game. Which style fits better into their attack philosophy? I guess we're going to find out.

Really, who in their right mind would make a lateral move to a worse team? A historically worse team. A perennial(too early to check the spelling) loser.

I'd still like to know who called the 40 yard pass on 4th and 2 with the entire season on the line, when you've got the most productive runner in the league in your backfield. If it was Shotty's call, he doesn't deserve to come back based on that call alone.

I said I want favre back, I think he'll be much better w/ a full offseason and having played a year w/ these guys but if not I'd expect a vet like a Leftwich and have Clemens compete w/ him. Remmeber how bad Chad looked 2 years ago behind that OL? I haven't givenup on Clemens yet and I like the limited amount of I seen from Ratliff, I still think he may be our QB of the future but that may be another year away.

We'd prefer a game mgr who does have an arm. I just don't want to be throwing it all over the place and turning it over as much as we did last year.

Do you realize how dificult it is to run on 4th and 2? it might as well be 4th and 20 that's how difficult it is. I agree we shouldn't be throwing downfield unless it's open but passing on anything more than 4th and 1 is the right way to go.

I would like Favre or a trade. I don't think there are any FAs we would really want. Possibly we could draft somebody although I don't think Sanchez is the guy which would mean after the first round and I'm not real keen on that idea either. Everybody is saying that if Favre does come back the first thing the Jets need to do is go out and get a big receiver. I think they're right. A lot of those picks he threw last year could have been caught by a big receiver.

In FA when getting a QB you go for stop gap type players, you're not getting a star b/c their teams don't let them go and they would be too expensive if they did. by all accounts they really like Ratliff who should be ready by '10 or some point in '09. I just think you get a any halfway decent vet in here to compete w/ Clemens for the starting job.
