Grienke vs Garcia Marcum vs Burnett Wolf vs Sabathia A talented Brewers team visits the stadium. It'd be great to see the lineup beat up some of the NLs finest pitchers (Grienke and Marcum). Colon threw a bullpen session on June 24 with no setbacks. July could see Hughes, Soriano, Chavez and maybe Feliciano back in the fold.
Hughes pitches tomorrow in Trenton I think. I'm crossing my fingers! I thought Soriano was looking like after the ASG though? It would be nice to get him back soon. Our pen is the only question mark right now. I haven't even kept up on Feliciano. As for Chavez, I've all but forgotten him. I'd rather keep Nunez in the utility role. Colon was taking bunting practice today. Supposedly that's a good sign we could see him pitch against the Mets. That would be nice.
Yeah. Soriano, Chavez, and Feliciano would be late-July arrivals. That's the latest according to the official team website. It will be interesting what they do with Chavez. I can't say I like that Jorge Posada is the backup 1B right now. Chavez might be worth a roster spot still. Excited for Colon's return, but I'd rather they let him return after interleague. He doesn't need to be hitting/running to first base.
I'm excited for some real competition but at the same time I'm not looking forward to this series for the Brew Crew lol.
I'm glad Swisher is totally out of his slump now. I couldn't believe people actually thought he wasn't going to start hitting this year. His BABIP was ridiculously low and his LD% at an all-time high. He was as unlucky as you're gonna get. The pitching has been terrific. Who could have thought at the beginning of the year that they'd have trouble finding a spot for a healthy Hughes.
Freddy Garcia is defying the fucking odds. Never dominant, never impressive, just solid. And yeah, Swisher is hitting everything right now. It's great to see, and it looks like the squad is having fun out there as well.
highlight of the game is when the brewers centerfielder slipped under a routine flyball. The hometown scorers scored it a triple, which was hilarious in its own right. The fans reacted like John Sterling when it was hit, as if it were anything but a routine flyball.
I'd say any pitcher whose ERA is sitting in the low-to-mid three's at this point in the season is pitching impressively, even if he's not dominant. I understand that no one expected Garcia to be as good as he's been, but why is everyone so surprised that he's at least a competent pitcher? Is it because his max velocity isn't impressive? Because Garcia's problems in recent years have been with health, not ability. If he's healthy, one would expect he's probably a league-average-ish pitcher at this point... but that he can give still you some innings. Which is great from your #5. And he's been far better than expected, that's for sure. Yeah, but those are just stats. If you used your eyes, you would have seen that he sucked. :breakdance: That's typical of any ball that the fielder doesn't touch, though... not "hometown scoring." So I guess the Yankees aren't going to roll over and die due to fear of the big, bad Red Sox, huh?
Like I wrote yesterday, he was practicing bunting. That's absolutely all he'll be given a green light to do when he plays. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he bunts and stands still in the box on direct order from Girardi. That's the Grienke I'm glad was adamant he didn't want to pitch in NY. I'm not sure I ever personally thought Swisher wouldn't hit. He just wasn't hitting from one side of the plate. And my only real issue with Swisher has ever been his significantly lower stats with RISP. Otherwise, I actually really like the player he is, and considering he was acquired for probably my all-time least favorite Cashman acquisition, I have no problem with him being here. I can't speak for anyone else though. The pitching has been far better than I thought it would be, and I thought it would be pretty good. My only fear is the bullpen. It's dismally shallow right now. I just hope that doesn't lead to Hughes going there. I'm not sure what they're going to do. It's hard to argue anyone should come out of the rotation. Maybe Nova, but do they really want to play those games with him? I'd love to see a 6-man rotation myself. I doubt they'll ever do it though. As I've said before, Garcia always appears to escape jams thanks to defensive gems. Given that he's the #5 guy, and that he consistently gets those outs, it's getting hard to argue against him. In reality, I probably would've never complained about him at all had Colon not looked significantly better than him in spring training. I wanted Colon to get the starting job, but it's worked out well enough so far. I'll tell you what, I always fear the Sox, but it's really nice to be better than them in the standings right now.
Fear the Sux? Please. The NYY are every bit as good as them, and barring injury can beat them on any given day. They've been doing nothing but winning even with the injury bug. Seems like people forget that in 09 the Sux beat the Yanks the first 9 meetings, only to lose the last 9 and watch the NYY win #27. (Not saying anyone in particular here, just the general sentiment right now is that the Yanks can't hang, which ain't true).
I don't know anyone who thinks the Yankees can't hang with the Red Sox. That's ridiculous. I'm always scared of the Sox though. A healthy fear, not shaking-in-my-pants. The "Curse" is gone, and therefore the Sox always have a shot to take us out. I see no reason to not want to play them though. Right now the Yankees look capable of beating anyone at any time.
The Yankees generally play poorly during the first half of the season series vs. the sox but pick it up in the second half
lets not get crazy. He looked like a retard at the plate. Unlucky my ass. The man has also never had a big hit in his life. Lets not forget hes been nothing more than embarrassing in his playoff appearences. Im not ready to suck his balls quite yet.
The guy was robbed of three home runs in the span of one week out on the west coast. He was driving the ball at a higher rate then he had at any point in his career, including his career year last year. His swing got out of whack from the left side for a little bit, which is normal, except it was magnified because the balls he was driving weren't finding spots.
Hughes: 6.1 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 8 K 4 seamer sat 91-94, hit 95 a few times according to scout guns. Here's video of all his pitches: http://thunderbaseball.wordpress.com/2011/06/29/phil-hughes-the-rehab/
