From CBS Sportsline..... News: The Miami Herald reports the New Orleans Saints have made a serious push to acquire Drew Brees. "From what I know right now, it's set where he's going, and it's not Miami," an anonymous source told the paper. Analysis: This would mean that the Saints will look to trade the second overall selection in April's Draft and won't land USC's Matt Leinart. It also means the Dolphins would make a greater push to acquire Daunte Culpepper, who is on the trade block in Minnesota. --------------------------------------------------- this could change the entire draft. if NO doesnt need a QB they will either trade down or take d'brick, IMO. then tennesee can possibly take leinart, leaving young on the table at #4, leaving us with a bunch of options, possibly taking young and trading him right off the bat (chargers/manning style).
I don't know what to believe anymore. There are so many rumors flying around about Brees / Culpepper it's making me crazy....
I will agree with that...the rumors at this time of the year are just flippin crazy...there is nothing else going on other than waiting for free agency to begin...
If its in all uppercase I usually assume its New Orleans...especially if it says something like...Brees to NO
Or maybe Brees' agent is just puting out the New Orleans rumor trying to get someone else to sweeten the pot.
This could be excellent for the Jets all around if it was to pan out. Chances are Leinart are would go to TN at that point, and Young would become a Jet (hopefully). And Miami would be stuck with Culpepper, who would have been a good pickup if Linehan was still there. He isn't, though, and without him and/or Moss, Culpepper is just awful. Heh. It would be VERY nice to see things go this way.
I'd certainly like to have him in Miami... Regardless if Culpepper ends up in Miami or not, this I don't agree with. Culpepper is an excellent QB, and he would be fine in Miami. We're still using Linehan's system, and it's not like Culpepper wouldn't be able to survive without Linehan.... As for not having Moss in Miami, there's a pretty decent WR down here in Miami named Chris Chambers, you might have heard of him, I don't know??... Although I think Miami will end up with Brees, Culpepper would be equally as effective in upgrading our current situation at QB....
John Clayton mentioned the Brees to Saints rumors on ESPN News. He put it pretty well, asking if it were you, where would you rather go and play? NO has a stigma about it now, not to mention the team maybe still being nomads. Just not an attractive destination anymore. I'm not saying its fair, but there is a perception about NO now that its going to take a long time to overcome.
Culpepper is not that good, Blitz. He would be an improvement, but I don't believe he's the guy to get Miami to where Saban wants to be this year. And that was before the knee injury. That was a devastating injury, and he won't be fully healed until NEXT season, and even after that, he won't be right.
A lot of people are saying that if the Saints will take Leinart even if they have Brees, which is crazy IMO, and that may be one of the reasons Brees might not want to go there.
I still think theres a decent chance that Young falls to the Jets anyway, because I see the Titans possibly taking Cutler. I don't think the Jets are too high on Young, but maybe they aren't showing interest umpurpose as a smokescreen.
If this happens the Jets should push hard to trade into that 2 slot and take Leinart. Not sure if Brees would go for NO unless he really doesn't get the offer he wants from the Dolphins. Maybe he takes pride in reserecting franchises sort of like he did with San Diego.
I would love to draft Young but with our Front Office and Manigini as head coach and the type of Offense we run Lienart would probably be the better fit.
