The pink addition to the uniforms for Breast Cancer Awareness Month is distracting. I don't see why the NFL has to have such intrusive florescent pink additions to the uniform. Pink gloves, pink shoes, pink emblems, pink whatever, it's distracting during the game. Rather than having this go on for an entire month why can't the NFL just do it for one week? One week is enough really. To have it go on for 4 straight games is very distracting and may actually have some impact on the game itself as it's being played. A patch I can see... have teams wear it all season long, but the crazy amount of pink on the field is out of place and takes away from the game.
MLB does this stuff for just Mother's Day and Father's Day (Blue for Prostate Cancer). It's really annoying seeing the NFL do it all month
Eh, once someone important in your life has cancer, you'll change your tune here. I could care less about a little pink in my weekend football and happy as hell my Dad's still around to watch it with me. Awareness leads to funding and in result better treatments for patients.
My mom died from cancer. I think it's nice that the NFL is bringing attention to the cause, just so long as it doesn't overpower the game itself. A pink patch would be fine; but pink shoes, pink cloves, pink emblems, pink towels, and whatever is just too much even for a good cause.
Well first off, sorry to hear about your mom. In the grand scheme of things this is simply entertainment. Sports are the original reality television. I find it more of a distraction when we wear those ugly ass titans uni's then the pink gloves ect. ... and if we keep playing like last sunday I'll need a distraction lol.
We have an entire stadium full of fans, if every one of them would like to wear pink that would be enough of an advertisement of the issue. If the NFL wants to promote the issue they should focus 95% of it on the stadium and the crowd. The Team maybe should wear a pink patch and that's all. Anything beyond that is distracting to the game at hand. Having the stadium glowing florescent pink is quite enough without drenching the NFL uniform with it too.
i may be wrong here, however,i believe the glove, shoes, towels, etc that are worn in the game are auctioned off with the proceeds going to cancer research.the players are only required to do it one week but alot of them opt to do it the whole month.so i say let them where as much as they want since it all leads to funds for a good cause
we should encourage more women to be tested for this cancer i know me and a lot of other guys would be willing to help
If that's the case then the Commissioner should step in and prevent it. Players should not be allowed to alter the uniform without the expessed permission of the NFL. It's a distracting practice and many players have gotten carried away with it to the point of turning it into a sort of competition. Look at all the pink on this uniform. Distracting enough on a Bucs uniform, but on most other uniforms it clashes and is very distracting on the field of play.
GF's mom just got diagnosed 3 moths ago. Had the same sentiments as the OP and then it happens to someone close t you. 1/8 women get it now..those are staggering stats. Really can't stress how serious an issue it is.
Although I support Breast Cancer Awareness month by wearing a pink band all of October, more support should be shown during Ovarian Cancer Month, which if you didn't know is happening right now. A nice teal ribbon attached to each jersey would be nice to see, but I realize that more women are effected by BC, but more die, including my mother, due to Ovarian. Food for thought.
It's a very serious issue and it's commendable that the NFL would take up the cause and bring attention it, but it shouldn't be allowed to overpower the game at hand. I mean the overpowering amount of pink on the field may be causing players to take their eye off the ball in realtime. In other words you're seeing all this pink rather than the football. I dunno... I agree with the sentiment but disagree with the implementation of it.
the nfl encourages it. the players get fined for wearing the wrong socks with out the nfls permission.but in october they are allowed to wear pink items to help raise money for a charity.the fact that you are grinding on this is puzzling to say the least.
I have no issues with this. I lost my mother to breast cancer in 07 after a hard 5 year battle. Go all pink if it helps!
Unless players find it distracting, I don't really see how this is an issue. If fans are finding it distracting, that just means that it is grabbing their attention, which in my mind is a good thing. I have a hard time seeing how anyone can really be that annoyed by some pink clothing.
Nah, it's just distracting that's all. Wearing a patch for a month in honor of it would be cool but allowing players to drench themselves in pink shouldn't be allowed in my opinion.
BillyGreen, you might have a point there. I have the outmost respect for cancer research and whatever we can do to enhance awareness and fund research I'm for it. As to the overusage of pink, it is a distraction, and hope is not overly done for people to make money on tshirts, towells and shoes more than to contribute to such a worthy cause. But if it helps the cause then lets go pink all the way
