Re: The thread title This series is only a 3-gamer and it ends on 9/12. Probably just a typo on 3rd's part. Maybe somebody wants to research the following. Since the Braves acquired Tim Hudson, has there been a Braves-Mets series in which Hudson and Smoltz did not start games? It seems those two guys pitch in every Braves-Mets series. Maybe Bobby Cox alters his rotation (like skips the 5th starter on occasion) just to make sure those two guys always pitch against the Mets.
Yeah its a typo but there doesn't seem to be any way to edit the actual thread title. It's funny you mention the Smoltz/Hudson thing I just made a similar comment to a Braves fan. I remember the last series these teams played someone mentioned that a start or two was rearranged so they would pitch against the Mets.
Yes the big difference between this year and last year is we have to play well heading into the playoffs. Last year at about the same time we were looking to clinch. Hopefully the strong play continues all the way to the world series as I don't really see how if the Mets get quality play from their stars (something that didn't happen last year) there is a team in the NL that matches up with them.
Well, so much for the "As Jose Reyes goes, so go the Mets" theory. In the last 10 games the Mets are 9-1 and have averaged 5.7 runs per game, while Reyes has a .184/.205/.342 line. And before we say thanks to David Wright for that (.265/.359/.647), let's not forget Carlos Beltran (.368/.415/.711) and Moises Alou (.412/.444/.765). Even whipping boy Shawn Green is doing well (.320/.346/.480).
I've got no problem with Green as long as he isn't taking playing time away from Milledge(.250/.400/.625). Although it sucks that Delgado had to injure himself in a meaningless AB in a blowout when he was hitting the ball so well.
