Since the Mets theme for the year is: "Logic?" Maine probably has a shot at the first no-no in history tonight.
If Maine fucks up tonight we really need a different starting pitcher. Does anyone know the lineup for tonight?
1. Angel Pagan, CF 2. Luis Castillo, 2B 3. Jose Reyes, SS 4. Jason Bay, LF 5. David Wright, 3B 6. Ike Davis, 1B 7. Jeff Francoeur, RF 8. Rod Barajas, C 9. John Maine, P
5-6-7 seems like good spots in the lineup for the only guys that are hitting at all. oh wait, no it doesn't.
what? Wright hasn't hit for shit and Francouer got his first hit in 25 at bats last night.. This is the best lineup we've put out there this season.
Of course it is. I'll admit it's a bold strategy loading the top of the order with .600 OPS guys and a cleanup hitter that hasn't had an XBH in a month. Moving Wright down is stupid, he's the only one that been getting on base consistently. It's unlikely to matter though because the rest of the lineup is so bad no one was driving him in anyway. It just doesn't make sense.
it's bad enough Wright can't get hits with men on base, but it is teetering on embarrassing that he can't not strike out with men on base. just fucking pathetic.
What a bizarre play. Chipper gets his second error on a popup, this time on the infield fly rule, the runners advance when the ball bounces away, and then Pagan sees that no one is covering home and he scores! 4-2 Mets. Oh, and that was quite a bomb by Davis a couple of innings ago.
Wright with a two-out RBI single. Add in triples by Reyes and Bay and a double for Francoeur and the offense has actually made an appearance tonight.
McLouth almost ties the game on a long foul, and then Rodriguez strikes out 2 to close it out. Mets 4-1 on the homestand.
I wonder how he'll handle not pitching every day. I'm going to the game next Wednesday, which was Maine's spot, so I'm interested to find out who I'll be seeing.
Niese throwing a lot of pitches, but 4 Ks in first two innings. Bay with a leadoff hit. Hopefully he's starting to heat up.
