NORMAN, Okla. — Sam Bradford just finished his workout, and let me tell you, it was near flawless. I’m not saying he solidified his spot at the top of the draft, but he sure didn’t hurt himself. It was one of the best individual workouts I’ve seen in a long time. A real Picasso. I’m getting the numbers together now and will get them to you shortly. – Gil Brandt http://blogs.nfl.com/2010/03/29/bra...ss/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter I'm on the bandwagon. I think he'll be better then Claussen.
I can't see St.Louis passing on a franchise QB for a 3rd year in a row. They should probably pull the trigger and grab Bradford.....unless Cleveland wants to trade up....and StL moves back to take Clausen.
Agree, barring a trade, Bradford will go to the Rams, which is great news for Tampa Bay. It guarantees Tampa Bay getting either Suh or McCoy.....big win for Tampa. The Jets were very fortunate last year.....Rams & Seattle passed on Sanchez
Bradford would fit in very well in St. Louis IMO and if he can keep his shoulder in place he'll be a good QB in this league... maybe not the greatest but certainly a top 15 QB. My problem is with Clausen going to the Bills at 9 (IMO)...
I think Clausen is a more NFL ready prospect. That's why he is and always has been my top rated quarterback. Sam Bradford has a weird release and he played in a stat inflating offense. I don't think the release will be that much of a problem though. I could honestly see this guy turning into a David Carr type player. If he goes to a garbage team like the Rams and gets thrown into the fire, I think he'll fizzle out.
I don't give a crap what Holmgren is saying right now - it'll be incredibly hard for Cleveland to pass on Jimmy Clausen if he makes it by Washington.
good thing sanchez came out a year early like he did. he wasnt dumb. he would of been competing with bradford, clauson, mccoy, and tebow. good chance he is not taken in the top five and loses a bunch of money. though there is a chance we wouldnt of had to trade up for him and save us some stuff also. then again we would of probably skipped sanchez and traded for jimmy. who knows.
Claussen's numbers are inflated by the system Weiss ran. I think he benefited from having a lot of talented skill players around him and the amount of screens they threw boosted his completion percentage. I think Claussen is a solid pick, but I think Bradford has more upside.
It was a good choice to come out because he would have had to compete with mid round McCoy and Tebow? He would be the #1 rated QB this year.
No, they weren't. The pro-style system that Notre Dame ran under Weis is not even close to the spread offense that Bradford plays in at Oklahoma. Sam Bradford threw a ton of screens and option routes at Oklahoma. A lot of the throws he had to make in that offense are never used in the NFL. Clausen played on a team with a swiss cheese offensive line and a god awful defense. I'm sure guys like Golden Tate and Mike Floyd helped him out a lot, but you're not giving him any credit for making those throws.
It's not a matter of giving him credit, and I don't see how having a bad defense is relevant. If anything he had more offensive series because of how often opposing teams scored. I think there were many games where the gameplan called for him to make a lot of safe, short, quick throws. I couldn't find a state for yards after the catch but if one exists I think Notre Dames as a whole would be high.
Having a bad defense is incredibly relevant. Clausen and the Irish defense had to play from behind in almost every game. They're weren't many games like that. Of course, you want your quarterback to protect the football and make safe throws, but Clausen took a lot of shots down the field in just about every game. I can't believe you're actually blaming him for his receivers getting yardage after the catch.
So if they're playing from behind, wouldn't he be throwing more, and thus, compiling more yards? It's not blaming him for his receivers getting yards after the catch. He was throwing to 2 potential first round wide receivers that had the ability to turn 10 yard slants into 60 yard touchdowns.
Agreed, with everything you said plus. Clausen was did not have a strong running game, offensive line, or defense for that matter. I think it says something about how good he is that he was so productive despite having so little around him
Just posting this so I can quote it later and look like a genius or someone else quotes me and leaves it in their sig for looking like an imbecil: Bradford will be on par with Matthew Stafford's skill level while Clausen will be a bust a la Brady Quinn.
You're on to something! Clausen had to throw the ball MORE. ...and he still put up great numbers with limited interceptions. The dude threw for 340 yards and 5 TDs and 0 INTs...in a loss to Stanford. I don't trust the Big 12 one bit - that conference got raped year in and year out by Mike Leach's retarded fun 'n gun offense. I'm not amazed at all by what Bradford did in 2008 against all of those terrible pass defenses. Did I mention that Clausen was very productive in a pro-style offense?
