I don't know if you realized this but last week vs. the Raiders was the first time we've run reverses and fake reverses to Brad Smith. IMO this was so Mangini could get these plays on tape for Belickick to study. Since there is another variation to the play, the throw, the Pats will think its a reverse and they will have it read out because they studied it, but in reality Brad stops up and throws it 60 yards down the field for a TD. I was just thinking this because if you saw that Boise State game, that's exactly what they did on the final 2-point conversion. They lined up like they did earlier in the year and Oklahoma thought they had the play read. But they added another variation, the handoff, and it worked to perfection.
Actually it wasn't, we have used brad smith on end arounds, reverses, and fake reverses throughout the year. Everytime he gets the ball, the D is thinking run, time for him to pass.
i thought the same thing a few days ago. I agree jets will try a gadget play. But I think smith is too obvious.
I disagree, it wouldn't be obvious. Smith has been in gadget plays all year, but during every one, the play was a run. No one will be expecting him to pass.
I expect both coaches to do things we've never seen before. They're way too smart to repeat any gameplan they've already used this season.
i wanna see smith throw a pass to ben graham....in his aussie rules career being a tall player he was good at taking contested catches
Bah....after all this time of waiting for smith to throw the ball I don't think he'll be used anymore then he currently is, unless the CS thinks we'll need some new gadget plays to pull out the win.
If Ben Graham caught a TD pass and we won the game I would denounce my American citizenship and move to Australia and start cheering for the Socceroos.... just kidding but just the thought of Graham catching a TD gives me chills
For us to say "it will take them by surprise" is kind of foolish just because Bill Belichek is the best gameplan coach in the league. I know most people here hate him but he will have his players prepared for anything that Brad Smtih can do on the field. I don't believe this is the day to try this play only because I believe the Pats will be ready for something like this. However, I also believe they will be ready for almost everything we throw at them. If we can match that coaching job and be ready for everythign they throw at us we have a great chance to win.
I believe one of the knocks on brad smith coming out of college as a quarterback was that he had a very weak arm. Im not positive but i think i heard this
i have been sayin this all week long, and even thought we'd see it against the raiders.....the pats are planning for it, and if anyteam can prepare, its them.
I was at the Raider game, and on the successful end around to Smith the defense's first reaction was to take a step backwards in anticipation of the pass. That helped to make the play successful in this first place. The pats will be ready for a pass from Smith. If we run one it will come down to timing and execution.
I can see this happening. Brad Smith has been the man all season, why not make him more a man this weekend
Randall El still completes these passes year after year while every team knows he likes to throw the ball. Just run the damn play already. It will work.
Way too obvious. The Jets are better off in formations which may look like they could be gadget plays but are actually conventional plays. The Pats will be ready for any trickery. Now, if they are worried about brad Smith throwing from a reverse, he may have fewer tacklers running at him fromt he secondary if they do actually run a reverse (pump fake thrown in?).
I'm all for Brad Smith getting into the mix but I always have that fear of the "Ray Lucas Incident" of 1997.
Who cares if they are prepared? i am sure they are prepard for Huston to run up the middle or Chad to dink and dunk but we do it anyway. Why not this? If it is not there he just throws it away or runs. I am sure he can be prepared well enough to execute this.
