There we go. Finally, a pick I really like. Brad Smith is a playmaker, coach the kid up, find out whether he's better suited at RB or WR, and get him on the field. Great selection. Note, I think he's better off at WR, but he's got the pure running ability/vision of a guy who can line up in the backfield, so it's close.
Absolutely terrible. He was a QB in Missouri...why do we need another project? I don't like this at all. When are we getting a pass rusher here????
I love it..... I never in a million years would think these guys would think to grab a guy like Smith. The guy would have been a Heisman Trophy Candidate if he played at USC or Oklahoma. Great pick...... He can do it all, throw, run , catch and he has some serious speed. Wow I am completely blown away but excited as well....... Watch the film of Smith when and if they show it, watch his vision. This is a great pick for the Jets
I love Smith. No reason in hell that Robinson should have been taken ahead of him. You want a playmaker, you got one.

He bursts out of the pocket as a scrambler and gets to top speed quickly. Is elusive in space and will make defenders miss. Is a playmaker with good vision and athletic ability. As a quarterback prospect, he has adequate arm strength. Shows the ability to make all of the NFL throws. He has flashed a quick release and can really snap the ball off when he keeps it high and doesn't drop it below his waist. He's a tough competitor. Is durable and will play through pain. He is a quiet leader but has the respect of his teammates. An extremely hard worker on the field, in the film room and in the weight room. Weaknesses: Lacks ideal height and lacks overall size as a quarterback prospect. He has great speed as a QB, but just adequate top-end speed as a WR/RS-type prospect. He lacks recognition skills as a QB. Does not show the ability to consistently make reads and check off of receivers as a pocket passer. He is impatient in the pocket and doesn't go through his progression reads long enough. He doesn't seem to understand pre-snap reads. Has trouble deciphering different coverages. Is erratic as a passer. Is too inconsistent in terms of his accuracy, feet and mechanics. Will drop the ball below his hip and his release quickness is erratic. He waits too late to throw the deep ball. Waits for the WR to get out of his break, rather than throwing before the break. He has adequate but not great arm strength. Deep out will float a bit and he needs to show better timing in order to get away with it. Lacks experience as a WR and RS. Overall: Smith redshirted in 2001 and has been a fulltime starter since. He had his best season as a sophomore in 2003, when he scored 18 TDs and threw for 11 more. Smith started all 11 games as a junior in 2004, completing 51.8-percent of his attempts for 2,185 yards with 17 TDs and 11 INTs. He also rushed 553 yards and four TDs on 165 carries. As a senior in 2005, Smith completed 59.4-percent of his attempts for 2,304 yards with 13 TD's and nine INT's. He also rushed for 1,301 yards and 16 TD's on 229 carries last season. In our opinion, Smith will need to make a position change in order to make it in the NFL. He lacks elite arm strength and is entirely too erratic as a passer. He has very limited understanding of what it takes to be a pocket passer in the NFL, and his learning curve will be steep if he remains at the position. However, he is an impressive athlete with enough natural playmaking skills and speed to find a niche as a wide receiver and/or scat-back on offense. He also could have some upside in the return game. Smith's lack of experience in those areas makes him a risk, but he is competitive enough to gamble on as an early Day 2 developmental draft pick.
College QB who I THINK was reluctant to change positions 6'2 210. Projected as a WR, but obviously Jets look at him as a RB. As long as his attitude is right and the staff has the patience he could contribute in a a year or two

He doesn't have to play QB. Smith's got lots of talent, so he can be a playmaker for us. Just gotta find a position for him.
