http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...es-chance-jets-owner-source-article-1.2926680 Taken from today's NYDN: Well there you have it... Another top 10 DP for 2018 guaranteed! Bowles has one more year and I have a feeling the clock is running on Macc to a lesser extent too.
only thing i like about this move is it keeps both mac and woody accountable, as firing bowles would afford both of them an excuse. i want mac and bowles tied together. one more year and get rid of both of them
Good move as long as a QB under the age of 30 is the week 1 starter. If we trade for a Cutler/Romo, it makes no sense.
The article is speculation only and frankly as it points out Woody Fired Mangenius after Tanny said he would stay so nothing is final. If we get blown out in the last game there is no excuse to keep him...
Who gives a shit about the last game? It's all backups and players that checked out week 4. It will indicate jackshit.
this is the way to go. worst case he bombs again and we are maybe in position to take a really good player in 2018.
I suspect Bowles will be fired after 2017 if not during the season. That's mainly because I think the Jets are going to tank like a stone next year and we'll be unlikely to win more than 3 games. Woody could prop it up again by investing even more on late-prime free agents but the talent base right now is pointing downwards and that would only fix things for a year. A few injuries like this year and it wouldn't even fix things for a year. If the Jets cut/traded most of the vets who are the problem they might give Bowles a new lease on life but the talent base would still be down. In a locker room with a bunch of highly paid players on the backend of their careers the head coach doesn't have much room to really take control. The aging players just don't give a shit. They've heard it all before and they've already got their money. The younger players who are up and coming look at that situation and all they want is their money before they get hurt.
Mac has looked terrible this season too and in no way deserving of firing Bowles and picking a new coach. They each should get one year to show real progress, or we clean house completely.
THIS,,,,,,,,,,, ALSO I don't believe anything from sources,,,,Mangini was told to his face he was safe and not going anywhere
What do you do when you have to rebuild though? This franchise needs to rebuild in the worst way. How many young/mid-career players with talent are on the roster? Leonard Williams Muhammad Wilkerson Quincy Enunwa Brian Winters (free agent to be and will be over-priced) Calvin Pryor (not really sure about him any more but damn stop playing a truck in center field. He doesn't have the catch up speed to play free safety) Is that it? Bilal Powell is 28. James Carpenter is 28 in March. Who else on this roster would be starting for a good NFL team?
I get what you're saying, I'm not arguing next year should be playoffs or bust. But Mac needs to improve the young talent on the team, and Bowles needs to show serious growth as a coach.
More evidence Woody doesn't know what the hell he's doing. I hope the fans stay away next season and give Woody a season's worth of attendance like they've had for the past couple of home games.
There's no clear upgrades, he's had one good year one bad year, I think it's the right move to bring him back even though I'm really unhappy with his in game management this year. It will be interesting to see what kind of expectations there are surrounding this team in 2017.
I agree with all of that. Obviously Mac's moves this offseason will decide the expectations. As for me, I will have none as I was way too high on 2016 and it completely went the opposite way. Hopefully the Jets can play more competitive games next year. That will be an upgrade. I'd probably be happy with (8-8) if the team was looking like it was headed in the right direction. If it's not, might have to move on from Bowles.
