Well, he hit his first of the season yesterday. Number 735. Just 21 more to go, and he is the home run champion until either ARod or Pujols can knock him off next decade. (Maybe even Ryan Howard, but it's still early to talk about him.) I'm not happy about it. Just wondering how you guys feel.
Let him break it, it won't matter because just as you said someone will just break it anyway. A-rod needs around 325 HR to do it and he has around 9 years left Pujols needs about 500 HR to do it and he has about 13 years left lol Forget Howard he needs ~680 HR to do it and he is 27 like Pujols A-rod average to do it - 36.2 HR a year Pujols average to do it - 38.5 HR a year Howard would have to average 52-53 HR a year for 13 years
i hate it completely, the guys going to break a true legends record and hes a straight up cheater. i always remember what he looked like when he played for the Pirates and laugh. why people tiptoe around the subject of him juicing is beyond me its so obvious he did.
I hate it too. I think at 31, Arod has at least 11 years left if he wants the record. However, with all his money he may decide not to play that long.
barry bonds is the man....people knock on him for being a cheater...but he was a hall of famer before steroids...
He probably was, but everything he has done since being juiced is meaningless. That includes his single season record and his all time records.
That's really my point of view. He is a cheater, period. If you get caught cheating on the last poker hand, does anyone say "Well, you can keep what you won already, but the last hand belongs to the house." Does Pete Rose get into the Hall after violating the rules, which probably did not affect his play in any way, shape, or form? To me, a cheater is a cheater. "Big Mac," Sosa, Palmiero, even Giambi. They're all cheaters, and if they were all banned from the game tomorrow, I would have no problem seeing them go. There needs to be a stand taken on guys who break the rules. I'm just glad this record will fall again in a few years.
We as fans, really don't know 100% whether or not Bonds has used steroids. I honestly think he did, and it will be a shame if he does break the HR Record.
We do know for sure he's used amphetamines. If nothing else, he's done that. And just because we don't have the evidence in our hands, doesn't make him less guilty. I understand your point, but at this stage of the game, it's really no longer a debate about whether he used them or not, but rather, should it matter, when, not if, he breaks the record?
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=gallo/070404_april&sportCat=mlb July 26: Barry Bonds hits his record-breaking 756th career home run at home against the Braves, with Hank Aaron in attendance. Aaron meets Bonds at home plate, hugs him, and then drops him with a knee to the crotch.
BUt there were no rules against players using roids until recently . MLB knew players were using roids but turned their head cause of the strike Big MAC Sosa and Bonds were all a reason for fans to enter the stadiums . And he wasnt caught so how is he cheating?
he's a cheater. I dont even think he should be playing baseball right now because he definatly does not deserve the money he gets and the fame he gets.
Sure we do unless you can give me any other plausible explanation on how someone's head and feet start growing again in their mid 30s.
EXACTLY. If he were the only one doing it, it would be giving him an advantage. With estimates of users as high as 80%, it's just keeping up.
So cheating can be condoned as long as it's most people doing it? I don't see how that argument fits. Was Aaron juiced up? How about Ruth? Hell, the Babe was stuffed full of hot dogs, and probably had half a load on from beer. The issue here is not whether Bonds has an advantage over his contemporaries. The issue is that by him using steroids, he has gained an advantage over people who worked their asses off to create one of (if not the) most hallowed of sports records. But I did ask for people's opinions, so it's not fair to judge yours. I'll just ask a follow up question: Why do you say you can't wait for him to do it? I'm just curious. If it were still Ruth's record, I could understand you wanting it broken, but do you have something against Aaron? Or is just because you like seeing the progression of the game? Or is it something else altogether?
