I didn't know Times op ed columnist Bob Herbert is a big Jets fan and he suffers with the rest of us. Good piece today about hoping for a win tomorrow. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/02/opinion/02herbert.html?hp
well he is right ya know... That probably is our biggest issue as fans. We build our hopes up way farther than we should, and we come crashing back to earth in the most painful of ways.
This is my 500th and something post...have fun reading the link. In other news...did anyone read Fuckhead Bondi's column in the daily news today? Basically saying the Jets dont deserve anything. I'm tired of this whinning bullshit all week. If the Dolfags didnt shit the bed twice in as many weeks they wouldnt have to complain about our situation and if anyone tries to tell me Pitts. deserves after they lost to Jokeland and the Chiefs...you can just go fuck yourself. I thought I couldnt hate anyone there more than I hate Myers but its getting close.
Good article. Like Bob Herbert, 1968 was my first year as a Jets fan and I also thought success was going to be easy. I also remember the 1969 season playoff game when we lost to the Chiefs 13-6. Back then there was the local "blackout" rule so I had to listen to the game on radio. I still remember my father was putting the Christmas tree up and I was listening the game on the radio. We had one last chance remaining when our defense forced the Chiefs to punt with just under 2 minutes left and I was dreaming of Namath leading us to a tying last minute TD. Unfortunately Mike Battle, our punt returner, fumbled away the punt and that chance for Namath never came. The only correction to Herbert's column is that had we beaten the Chiefs we still had to play the winner on the Raiders/Oilers AFL playoff game to return to the Super Bowl.
Captured every one of my emotions, though I would say Iv'e tried to temper my emotions a little and try not to have too much hope, lol, I mean it really hurts a lot when you go all in with these jets, I don't think I ever felt as bad as when we lost to the Bronco's in 98, that one stung for a good week or two.....good read!
if the dolphins were in our position i doubt their fans would be feeling bad about it. they can cry all they want it won't change the jets win and are in, while the dolphins can go play golf.
Haha, I just read this article earlier today. "We should know better, but we can’t help ourselves." Captures it perfectly.
I despise Hebert's politics, but this is a great read. He hits the darksider/SOJ philosophy right on the head.
I'm a Jets fan since 2004, and I've already had a good share of heartbreaking seasons Hopefully this decade can be the decade.
'82 Mud Bowl gave me my earliest football memories. Richard Todd to AJ Duhey. I consider the pain I've suffered since then commensurate to that of the fans who have been right there since 1968 or even 1958 with the Titans. At least they were able to witness and experience that one shining moment of glory and bask in the (evanescent) hope of more to come.
Its funny how we all know theres gunna be some bad pains throughout each season but the day we finally get that 2nd championship i know i will including many others will come to tears which will be a day too remember  hopefully it comes sooner then later
Great article. It is getting to the point though where people expect the worst and almost want it to happen just to keep the SOJ alive. From the great movie animal house. THANK YOU SIR MAY I HAVE ANOTHER!
