Bills RB Lynch suspended for 3 games by NFL Posted Apr 09, 2009 11:04 AM By JOHN WAWROW http://www.fanhouse.com/news/nfl/bills-rb-lynch-suspended-for-3-games-by/421615 ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -Bills running back Marshawn Lynch will miss the first three games of the regular season after being suspended without pay by the NFL for violating the league's personal conduct policy. The NFL announced the suspension Thursday, a month after Lynch pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge in Los Angeles. It was the player's second run-in with the law, following a hit-and-run accident in Buffalo in May. The suspension means the Bills will be without the 2007 first-round draft pick for their prime-time season-opener at New England on Sept. 14. The rest of the Bills schedule has not been released. Lynch apologized for his actions, and anticipated he'd be suspended after meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell last month. Under league rules, the suspension takes effect after the Bills final preseason game, and Lynch will be allowed to take part in the team's offseason programs, including training camp. Lynch has the option to appeal the ruling. The player's agent, Doug Hendrickson, was not immediately available for comment. The Bills referred questions to the NFL. Lynch characterized the meeting with Goodell as a wake-up call, and said the commissioner's message had sunk in. "Something that he stressed throughout the meeting was that he will not tolerate any more screw-ups by me," Lynch said. "I never had the intention of getting into trouble or anything like that. But along the way my road got rocky, and now you know it's time to set my pavement straight." Lynch was arrested near Los Angeles on Feb. 11. In searching a parked car carrying Lynch, Culver City police found a 9mm semiautomatic handgun inside a backpack in the trunk. Police also found four marijuana cigarettes in the car, but no drug charges were filed. He pleaded guilty to having a concealed firearm and was sentenced to 80 hours community service and three years' probation. Lynch already has become more active in the Buffalo community. Earlier this week, Lynch and Bills cornerback Terrence McGee provided financial assistance to help sponsor the 18th annual Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament, which will be held in Buffalo in late June. "They are really doing something pretty historic," Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said. "Not only are they devoting some of their time, but they are putting up their personal dollars to support the event.
only three games? I thought he was looking for a four gamer. Here's to hoping we play the bills in week two or three! I mean he has never been amazing against us in his career, but it will certainly be easier to beat them when he isnt in town.
Eh, I could care less when we play them. We should be able to beat the Bills with or with out Lynch. If we need them to be down a player to have a chance its truely sad. Three games is about right for a possession crime. If Lynch does wake up its well worth it to the Bills and the NFL.
well i agree we can and should beat them whether he is or isnt playing. That said, their offense would be garbage without lynch, so it would be fun to watch the Rex Ryan defense just flat out tee-off on Trent Edwards. especially early in the season. Yeah these suspensions need to be handed out more commonly i believe. It needs to prevent these guys from getting into the drugs early on and just scare them right off the stuff. Also carrying illegal concealed firearms needs to be stopped as well.
I have read before that all rookies have to attend a class or classes on the money they are about to come into, the type of past friends and new ones to avoid, the conduct the is expected of them. Basicly saying you've jsut hit the lottery, now don't fuck it up. Obviuosly the classes are not working well, but the NFL and NFLPA are making an attepmt. If the NFL starts ahnding out supensions all too freely it would turn into an ugly affiar with the NFLPA. A case by case basis is the best we are goign to get for now.
HA! No Predator for 3 games. Whether we play them or not, hopefully this missing piece of the puzzle aides them to an 0-3 start.
Well i thought the rules were pretty straight forward, you get caught once, you get a game, caught twice it's 4, caught thrice its a season, caught again and you are removed. so i don't see a problem with handing them out according to the rules, but then again i might be wrong, who knows.
