Hardly a surprise. I imagine they will go hard for Bieniemy on the coaching side, but they might not want to wait until the end of the season. Romeo Crennel is interim HC.

What a dumpster fire. They let him trade two first round picks for Tunsil and then overpay him, trade Hopkins for chicken shit, build a god awful staff and defense and then cut him loose after paying Watson $40 million per year (remains to be seen whether that's the right or wrong move - he's really good though).

Oh and then the best promotion they have is a guy who is 28-55 as a head coach and let the Chiefs kick their shit in with a 24-0 lead.

It's bad. At least they had the nuts to make the move now though.

It's a shame they no longer have the draft capital to approach Adam Gase for HC.

Wow that was fast the Texans have been horrible but I'm surprised.

They took that big lead against the Chiefs in the playoffs last season it's literally been all downhill since.

So stupid to trade away Hopkins when they re-signed a (supposedly) franchise QB.

After this I wouldn't be surprised if Atlanta pulls the plug on Quinn if Atlanta loses another heartbreaker tonight.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Quinn become our DC next year.

He should have just handled the HC job, it’s a lot to ask of a HC to be GM as well.

I’m sure he will get another job as either OC or HC, he’s not a terrible HC but he’s a bad GM/HC.

I know the Texans don't have a 1st or 2nd for 2 years.. hypothetically speaking - If we landed 1st or 2nd overall, would you offer it up for Watson? Would it take more than that?

They got rid of Rick Smith who actually did a good job finding talent and let O'Brien run the whole show.

Yeah for sure. The Texans were routinely a good drafting team that had a ton of talent from 2008ish on, until Billy OB destroyed the whole thing over the past two years. They just couldn't find a QB.

1st pick no, I'd rather take my chances with a cheap Lawrence than an expensive Watson. 2nd pick, I'd consider it but only if I'm confident the GM and coach are good enough to not ruin Watson.

If Watson is really getting $40M a year on the cap it doesn't matter who they hire there, they are still going to lose more than they should. This is the Flacco lesson from Baltimore. Paying your QB like he's the main reason you are winning has so many negative impacts, both in the locker room and on the field that it almost universally deep-6's your team for a few years until you get rid of the guy and find a cheap replacement.

It's bad juju for the Jets when they hire a guy who just got fired. It's bad juju for most teams when they do that because most guys who just failed at their job really need some time to reflect on why they failed at their job. Bringing them to your team immediately just increases the chance that the HC never resets and you have the same problems the last team did.

The Jets have had that happen with Gase and the Browns had it happen with Mangini.

The worst decision the Jets have made recently, and there have been a bunch of bad decisions, was when they fired Mangini in year 3 after Favre's injury collapsed the 2008 Jets down the stretch. It looked like a good decision when Rex Ryan came in and took Mangini's teams to the playoffs 2 years running but it also destabilized the Jets in a big way and we haven't gotten back on track since Ryan legitimately flamed out in 2012. He lasted two more seasons after that but he did not know talent the way Mangini knew talent and he had very little discipline.

I would hope we learned our lesson about hiring coaches who are just recently fired.

Yup. Mangini built those teams for his systems and knew how to put his players in the right position to succeed. He had his faults (scared 4th quarter defenses) but he was an all encompassing head coach and coached the entire time unlike the last three specialists we've had.

In other news, I don't like Dabo Swinney as an NFL guy, but if he's ever going to make the leap, a move to a Texas based franchise with one of his best players ever seems to make a lot of sense...

the guy was a genius just a couple years ago. they play 4 brutal games and now he's axed and he's trash. I don't believe that. I think he would make a good coach here or somewhere

he needed to go 2 years ago. i have no idea how he conned them into giving him the gm and hc job but he wasnt good at either.

however he is head and shoulders better than gase, but gase wont go until after the season because of the fact they are still paying bowles. just some more dumb jetness. billionaires worrying over millions.
