Well, I guess if it happens the positive will be that the offensive line needs to be fixed before the offense functions well again. So he'll either fix this or get fired himself in short order.

If the rumors he's reporting are true, yes.

Read the tweet folks. It is not saying Callaghan is going to replace Schotty. Cimini, in his typical style, is criticizing the Jets for permitted Callaghan, who he views as the likely successor to Schotty, to be without a contract extension, intimating he might be gone before he gets the OC job.

I read it and it clearly implies Schotty gets the axe.

It also implicitly criticizes the Jets, I agree with you there.

I posted this in another thread about Callahan

For me Callahan is the best option to be our next OC for a number of reasons. Most importantly Rich Gannon. Look what the guy did for Gannon's career. When Gannon came to the Raiders in 99 Callahan was the OC and up to that point Gannon had been an average NFL QB and a career journeyman never starting more than 12 games in a season. He never had a QB rating over 81, 99-2002 his ratings were 86.5, 92.4, 95.5, and 97.3. He has never thrown for over 2300 yards (although he also never started a full 16 games). Again from 99-02 his passing yardage was 3840, 3430, 3828, and in 02 he really blew up for 4689 yards. Gannon had never thrown more than 16 td passes 99-02: 24,28,27,26.

The Raider offenses were also among the tops in the league during that time. 1999 they were 8th in points 5th in yards, 2000 3rd pts 6th yards, 2001, 4th pts and 7th, and the Super Bowl year when Callahan took over as HC they were 2nd in pts and 1st in yards.

Add to that Callahan has coached in a Super Bowl, just missed another because of the tuck rule, and he knows our personnel which would make it a quicker transition.
That is a pretty impressive resume so to me it's a no brainer I would give the guy the job tomorrow.

Rich Cimini and Jane McANUS - a match made in heaven...Throw in Ian O'Conner and you have a trifecta of upper echelon journalistic talent.

That's the part that I read too. Now if that's the case, looks like our CS is in for a major overhaul this offseason as well as the expected roster upgrade.

Well not sure how much you can trust Cimini but if its true its good news we are finally ready to move on from Schotty. Its been 6 years now and the offense has never cracked the top 10 and 4 of the 6 years we will end up finishing 20 or higher in total offense.

On the other side though I hope we don't miss out on Callahan. I think it's pretty amazing the guy hasn't gotten more OC offers already with the success he had in Oakland before getting run out by the inmates. Whatever we do we should identify the candidiates we want and move quickly so we don't miss out.

if he brings in a new system, great, if not I dont see the point in bumping him as OC.

Callahan might be bitter because the Jets wouldn't let him interview for the Titans' OC job. Hope that doesn't end up hurting us.
