He knew Mangini was a VERY GOOD coach and would lead the Jets back to prominence.....If he thought Mangini was going to be a stiff as a coach he would have given him his blessings....
...whether or not Eric ends up being a very good coach, that remains to be seen. Having said that, it was the first thing that popped into my head when the soap opera ensued last week...
Actually, I think it's a result of them taking a piss next to each other before Mangini left town. Belli took a peek, and Mangini just grinned.
to paraphrase Smash Mouth; she was looking kinda dumb, with her finger and her thumb in the shape of an L on her forehead" and I'm not reffering to BB or EM in this case, i'm reffering to JJ
Belichik was pissed at Mangini mainly because he was planning to retire in a couple of years and let Mangini have the team. I'm laughing now thinking about how much Belichik must feel like Parcell's did in 2000: the easy way out is gone and the team don't look so hot anymore.
What did everyone want, to see Mangini and BB go out into the middle of the field after the game and have a slugfest. Actually, I know there are plenty of people on this board who would pay big money to see that.
Actually, Mike and the Mad Dog were discussing this very thing on the air yesterday. Perhaps JoeJet was listening to the same broadcast I was. I was going to make a thread of it also, but having already been started by JoeJet, it's as good a place as any to post what they said. M&MD speculated that Bill Belichick is an excellent evaluator and groomer of football talent and knew all along that Eric Mangini was smart, had talent and drive and was learning football at an alarming rate under Belichick. Belichick put a lot of time into teaching Mangini his tricks of the trade and Mangini was a fast learner. But he also knew that Mangini might someday make an excellent HC and he preferred keeping him under his wing. When the Jets, of all clubs, inquired about Mangini, Belichick's intense dislike of the Jets (especially as a division rival) prompted him to strongly counsel Mangini against taking the job. M&MD speculated that Belichick couldn't stand the fact that Mangini would be interviewing with the Jets, his arch rival and the one club he despised with a passion, especially after the huge fallout. So he threw every negative he could conjur up at Mangini, hoping he'd turn down the job. When Mangini accepted, Belichick turned against him like a pit bull. This is the real reason for the cold shoulder: jealousy and a fear that Mangini will come back to bite him on the ass, which we will most definitely do.
Yes I believe leaving New England after his coach allegedly told him not to plays a factor... But I think even more-so why Belichick did the whole shake and move on was the Deion Branch thing. The alleged "tampering" had to have ticked off Belichick, so he didn't want any part to talk to the guy IMO... Who cares...
Above, one of the better explanations I have heard. I thinks it's kinda like giving away your most prized fishing hot spot to your friend. The next time you go fishing he is there and won't concede it to you.
