Some good news potentially. http://thejetpress.com/2012/08/03/jets-training-camp-standout-rb-bilal-powell/ http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2012/08/jets_defense_responds_after_lo.html http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/jets...MpH8IvPUSiG4J?utm_medium=rss&utm_content=Jets
This is good. From my understand Powell is like a Greene type of runner more than Mcknight? Him and Greene can share the heavy the runs and McKnight can be the game changer. Also, if he can block, something Greene is average at, Powell could get more snaps as its harder to guess what he is in for
Old news, but still doesn't diminish the the impact of it. Like most of the level headed fans on here have been saying, "let the yound guys develop". Why bring in an already problematic aging Ced Ben?
Love to hear this. I really hope this guy comes alive in the preseason.. Sounds like he's been working his ass off. This is the best post I've read about the Jets all off-season.
For some reason, he running reminds me of running backs in Madden. He isn't making any crazy moves, he is mainly just taking good angles and outrunning people. He seemed to run a bit upright, but he did a nice job of getting low to break a tackle on that last run. Anyway, the Jets definitely need their RBs to step up. So I'm hoping to see either him or McKnight emerge.
Its interesting, I hate the whole Tebow thing, but wouldnt this guy be perfect as an option 3rd down back for Tebow?
Depends on what you want to run. If it's just a straight Read/Option type play like McGahee ran last year, then yeah, he'd probably do well. If going with more of a speed option kind of thing like Demps and Harvin did down at Florida, then McKnight might be better. Could really mess teams up and go with both guys in the formation. All depends on how far into the Option playbook Sparano wants to go.
I'm a bad Jets fan, this is the first video of him I've seen play in but holy hell, he looks fucking fast. Or is that video just sped up?
I'm hopeful. We need someone to step up that is unexpected. The offense doesn't exactly have a known commodity superstar. Sanchez, Greene, Santonio, Keller, all good and maybe above average in some spots, but not superstars yet. We need someone like Powell, Ganaway, Baker, Cumberland, Stephen Hill or Schilens to add that other dimension, that other wrinkle. (Oh, and we have Tebow, who could be a wrinkle of sorts, but I have a strong feeling any of his production will be at the expense of RBs or Snachez TDs rather than in addition to them. Just sayin.)
Joe McKnight rushed six times for 33 yards in Friday's preseason opener against the Bengals, adding two catches for 27 yards. McKnight out-played Bilal Powell, who could muster only 16 yards on his five carries, and one catch for four yards. Both players entered on the Jets' third offensive series. McKnight tacked on extra yards with some nice open-field moves, and showed good burst around the edge. Powell, meanwhile, left some yards on the field in the second quarter, gaining just two yards on a 2nd-and-7 after slipping. Fighting for third-down and change-of-pace duties, most camp dispatches have had Powell ahead of McKnight.
C'mon GMC, you know better than to present facts in the middle of a Jet fan delusion. That's a bannible sin over at JI.
The thing that impressed me most about McKnights game yesterday was his pass protection. He stuck his nose in blitzers chests a few times and stood his ground fairly well. This, and protecting the football will earn him more carries.
I don't like Powell's running style. I felt he flails too much and runs high. McKnight seemed to run with a much better center of gravity and didn't do nearly as much unnecessary dancing. Maybe Powell had an off night but if he wants to see real playing time this year then he doesn't have very many opportunities to actually show something.
I have taken particular interest in Mr. Powell and as best as I can see, he has never broken a tackle or gained more than two yards in the last two years. He is not a nfl caliber starting RB. In fact, if you watch his YouTube videos for college, he doesn't break any tackles there either. I don't know what anyone is talking about. It does appear he can catch the ball and block. So, that's something I guess.
McKnight im not worried about im more worried about the rest of the RBs on the roster and would feel more comfortbale with a proven vet in the mix. LT was a perfect fit here.
