Ted Cottrell is a terrible d coordinator, as we all know historically being Jets fans. It's a huge advantage for the offense to be going against the mediocre football mind of Ted Cottrell, sans Merriman -- that's my opinion.
Yesterday I looked through one of the Bolts forums and there were a lot of very familiar complaints, especially about the cushion their Dbs were giving opposing wideouts. Plus, I believe Jamal Williams is on his last legs, he's playing with 2 bad knees, we might actually get some decent blocking between the tackles and get yardage on the ground. BEND BUT DON'T DEFEND, TEDDY!!!
Wasn't there defense good last season and didn't Cotrell run it then? I see they're playing poorly this season, why were they good last season? Merriman maybe?
Loss of Merriman and the decline of Jamal Williams seems to be the main consensus, but they are also raging about the conservative approach and lack of blitzing.
U know the more I think about it the more I wonder if maybe the CS does not have confidence in our WRs which is the reason for the consrvative play calling
They were sending 4 for most of the game, but throughout the 3rd quarter they blitzed almost every down and it seemed to work well. Once they got the game close again he went back to sending 4 and getting no pressure. Sending Merriman as the 4th guy probably used to help that approach a lot.
Then they have less confidence in the wideouts than I do, because I think we have a lot of good young talent in that area. But it would explain why we kept so many WRs on the roster during final cuts.
Someone said they reported on some SD TV sports show that they closed practices for the defense because they were installing a bunch of new blitzes. What encourages me is Cottrell's 4-3 blitzes were some of the worst I ever saw when he was here, and also that Favre is one of the best at reading and avoiding a blitz. We just have to hope it's not Leon back there blocking when most of them come.
I look forward to an epic play calling battle between shotty and cottrell to see who can give the other the advantage for that phase of play *Not* SD is 30th in the league in total yards allowed, but 'only' 26th in yards allowed per play. Lets hope their D is incompetent enough to allow our D to get a breather this week. I predict a low scoring affair as I am starting to believe in our D but have no faith in our ability to score points, even against a mediocre defense.
You're pretty correct what makes me upset is the fact that Brett Favre, Alan Faneca, Cotchery, and the running game can't score points.... thats upsetting.
I'm having a hard time getting excited for this game. Yea, the Bolts D looks weak, but their offense is going to be just fine. I don't if we have the weapons or coaching to hang with them in a shootout right now. I really hope Favre, Shotty and Co. prove me wrong on that.
Really? These are the few weeks of the year we're mathematically still alive. I can't wait for the game, I work Monday night but I'll be done about 9:30 or 10 and we have a TV at work.
Its not as if I won't be glue to the TV all night Monday, I just have a sinking feeling about playing the Bolts who could just as easily be 2-0 instead of 0-2. It should be a hell of a game if the Jets actually let Brett do his thing and our receivers/TE's decide to hang on to the damn ball. I'm just not buying into all the "we have this advantage" or "Catching them at the right time " talk.
The good thing however, is that the O will come together. In that week, I will be wrong, and very, very happy.
Take a chill pill bro...Rome was not built in a day. All the players you mentioned are playing together for the first time in their careers. Nothing to worry about, just need to get on the same page. They should be much better after the bye. Come playoff time and we will be kicking asses...
i know, and I've been saying it'll take till the Cincy game to see them really click. But on paper, its a sad thing to see.
