Ok so after being anxious after losing out on Cousins and hearing nothing else the Jets seemed to have come away with young helpful pieces yesterday. Now the questions is how much do we have left and who do we go for? I don't know signing bonuses etc but lets go off of market value and what we are hearing. Rounded at 90 million. A. McCown 10 million left 80 left B. Bridgewater 5 million 75 left C. Johnson 15 million 60 left D. Williamson (don't know but going with market and we pay a little over) 5 million 55 left E. Crowell (don't know little over market) 4.5 million 50.5 million left. F. Santos haven't seen the money but probably 1 million. G. Claibron. 7 million 42 million left after these signings. So I think we need 20 million for some exclusive rights free agents and our draft picks. So we probably have about 22 million left to spend before we hit the 20 million point. Areas of need now: A. Center. Be nice to get Jensen at 10 million there. B. Tight end: 5-7 million to get ASJ back or some other tight end (wouldn't surprise me if we trade for someone or pick someone up in August if we don't get ASJ since Burton is signed). C. CB: Be great if we sign Claiborn for 7 or 8 and then cut Skrine and sign Matthieu of 7 or 8. D. OLB: I think we'll sign a few players at about 4 or 5 million. Does this sound right to others? Am I missing anything?
How the hell did McCown command a $10 million salary. I can't imagine he was garnering a lot of interest around the NFL. It feels like we are paying him at least twice as much as he is worth.
We need a starting C badly, although I am starting to believe we will look to add one via the draft at this point. I know there is interest in Spencer Long, but he would be better suited as a reserve G/C/RT because the guy can't stay healthy and is very, very average/below average. We also need a DE, CB, depth at ILB, depth along the DL, depth along the OL, could use a WR and it seems like we're interested in bringing in another veteran RB.
I think he got 8 million last year. So a 2 million increase and 10 million is what a low end starter gets. That's what I'm thinking. Though I do think Bridgewater will be given every opportunity to start so maybe two million to keep him happy. Not sure.
I like Jensen over Long but be ok with that. Long's health is a concern for me though. I hear Jones is going back to Tennessee but that could have changed.
Agree on Jensen,,but I have to tell you I would take any CENTER right now over what we got,,,hell even Slausen is old and coming off an injury but can play several positions
Heard we were in on McKinnon but the 9ers got him for 8.5 million. Happy we didn't get him. Find that interesting. Wondering if maybe we sign another rb and look to trade Powell. I feel like Powell has always been underappreciated. He's close to 30 so now it is a business so it makes sense to go younger. Be interested to see if we go for another rb in free agency. I think most are gone now. Better to get one in the draft in my opinion. Wonder if we look to trade Powell for a 4th round pick or so.
I don't see them signing another RB in FA but they should be drafting a RB probably as high as the second round.......the Crowell signing IMO is to replace Powell. I don't think the coaching staff likes him as much as us fans seem too plus he's pushing 30. The every down RB ( Forte's replacement ) will be found in the draft..... I can't see a 29 year old RB fetching much in a trade but you never know....

Just read Long plays guard as well. Thinking maybe we sign Jensen too move Long to guard and release Carpenter. Long is coming from Washington where they used the zone blocking scheme the Jets are installing. So it could happen. Be nice if it did. Guess we'll find out soon.

Brook its not my wish I would rather Jensen,,,,,but Wesley Johnson was atrocious ,,,so anything would be an upgrade hell you out there with your bad back would do better

This. And McCown as of today is a better QB. $10M is not a big deal for McCown. It's perfectly valid for a 1 year deal.
