I'd rather the Pats signed Dalton than Cam. Cam has won a Super Bowl with a great defensive team before.
Winston threw 30 interceptions last year. It's a miracle any head coach was willing to have him. Not that he doesn't have talent, because he does, but interceptions are the #1 coach-killer in the NFL. I doubt any team would have been willing to sign him as a starter at this point - even the Saints.
No he hasn't. They lost the SB. Cam was the MVP in 2015, he was All Pro. They were the No. 1 team in offensive scoring that year. Cam was lights out. 35 passing TD's, 10 rushing TD's. He was absolutely phenomenal. Denvers D pretty much bitch slapped him in the SB. He hasn't been close to as good since that game.
So what you're saying is that he'd be a nightmare to deal with on the Pats? That's what I'm worried about. Belichik is desperate right now although he'd never show it. He's likely to sign the highest ceiling QB available before all is said and done and that looks like Cam to me.
Dalton was benched for Jeff Driskel, Dalton had some turnover issues as well, it wasn't 30 TOs, but he had some backbreaking turnovers too. Saints could fix Winston.
The Saints probably made the right move with Winston. He is still young enough for Payton to try to mold him and he has a ton of upside. Think Vinny Testaverde in 1991 or so. However like Vinny he probably is going to take the right coach and system to refine. Most importantly he only has to play this year if Brees gets hurt so no immediate pressure unless the season is irrevocably screwed anyway.
It's a good question. I thought Winston would be perfect for the Pats. Cam has already made over 120 million. He has taken a huge beating and the last couple of years seems like he doesn't want to get hit anymore. I'm suspect that he still has the mojo to play NFL QB. It would certainly be interesting if he has the desire and is healthy. I don't think he does.
Probably a better insurance policy then Taysom Hill! Would be interesting to see if Payton could fix him.
Dalton is a great option to back-up Sam. He is a back-up QB now. Not a starter. Maybe the Patriots sign him, but it would not make much sense since they have Hoyer. Dalton is a premium back-up QB though. Great starting experience, playoff experience, can come in and win you a couple games if need be. Can't ask from more from your QB2. If the Jets would sign him, it would be one of the best QB rooms you could have, with 1. Sam Darnold 2. Andy Dalton 3. James Morgan.
I don't think he'd fit in the Pats offense. He looks like Brady right down to the point that the offense gets in the red zone. Then he needs a strong rushing attack to score. Brady is terrifying inside the 20 and especially down near the goal line. Alex Smith turns into a below average QB as his team gets closer to the goal line. This despite him having quite good mobility for a QB.
Good point he has always had a little choke in him. He's still a very sound game manager who might fit in with BB for a year or two. They can't replace Brady. He's a generational QB.
I doubt Dalton would want to come here. If a team like the Pats or Jags is interested, he's going to go there because he'll have a chance to start there.
