The Jets have actually been good at developing olineman. I trust that they know what they are doing here.
The only person who is common to the meager handful of Olinemen the Jets have developed in the past 2 decades is the penis-headed owner who can't even throw a football. And even that douche will be missing this year. The CS has turned over more times in the past 20 years than Weeb Ewbank in his grave. It's not the uniform that develops offensive linemen, it's the CS.
Not sure i agree with this. U could have been in a coma and awoke 1 hr before the 2006 draft and still have drafted ferguson and mangold. Yes we have seen the occasional guy brandon moore and his success but we have had a plethora of middle round OL picks over the years that don't amount too much. I dont trust any part of the jets in their evaluations and player development.
Don't worry, the guy who caused the hit in your video link will be resigned also. We assigned a second round tender to him.
Not much else out there. These OL today got ridiculous money for how good they are, just look at Khalil.
I see this as a depth signing ..of course the Jets overpay a little but what else is new They cant be serious starting him,,LT has to be a draft target I hope
If we still address LT and have Ijalana and Shell compete at RT I like the move. Don't like him as a starting LT.
I think he is a depth player like you said. He can play all over the line if needed , as a backup but definitely not a starting LT. I hope Mac has a plan because this draft sucks for LTs.
Posted on a different thread we can use S Richardson as trade bait ,,,,NOT for QB but a good LT that's not old
I'd be good with that. I'm sure someone will reply that no one will trade a LT for Sheldon , right after they post that we can trade Sheldon for a FQB
The biggest irony in this OL re-building cluster fuck is the notion that some of the people on this site have, where on one hand they continue to criticize Mac for not doing enough, which is a probably a valid point, but yet they would be up in arms if we use the first or even second round pick on an OL. At the same time some would condone going out and paying $56M+ over 3 years for a player with a short term remaining playing span. It's time to invest heavily thru the draft in the first 2-3 rounds on OL. That is the only solution. We dug ourselves a hole and we need to get out of it properly. We would have been light years ahead if we did that versus some of the sorry selections of years past, including a QB or 2 or 3.
Look..by all means I'm extremely unhappy w. the prospect of starting Ijalana at LT. But it's a crappy FA & draft crop for OL. W. needs at literally every single spot except DL...why am I gonna prioritize OL over more fruitful positions? It just doesn't make sense. We can't just "create a player" at LT or center that resolves the issue. Secondly...this be all end all OL thing just doesn't translate to winning any longer. We need to get over this "everything begins & ends in the trenches"...that was true till about 5 years ago. OL is largely feast or famine at this point. Either you can protect your QB..or you can't. Yes..the Cowboys are the exception. But it helped that when they went into all those draft picks they made..they already had a respectable if not elite skill corps in place..and it also helps that OL look good when you have skill players that keep defenses honest...and can make plays out of nothing. What once was "Build inside-out" on O....may no longer be true. It's much more important to have size, athleticism & skill on the boundaries. That's where you win & lose ball games now. The physical, phone booth game of football is dead. It's basketball on turf. We can either embrace it & build a team accordingly...or continue to bang our heads against a wall trying to build a super front 5 that simply doesn't have the impact that people perceive. Finally...we have 4/5 starting OL spots pretty much cemented in. Yes LT is the most important spot which is vacant...we need more competition at RT..and could use better depth. But is that enough to justify passing on better talent bases at other positions of need & go w. this "OL or bust" mandate in a down year for big man talent? If there's something I'm missing w. all of this..I'm open to alternative interpretations. But looking at the roster structure, the league's climate & the available talent pool via FA/Draft...I just don't see this as a sound plan for success. It makes much more sense to prioritize the boundaries/edges on both sides of the ball this year..and go into next offseason/draft w. a full range of draft picks....significant cap space & solve the OL riddle at that point. We are gonna go into next season w. major holes to address one way or another..we might as well stick to taking the best available talents at every spot & hope the remaining holes can overachieve in 17 & be addressed in 18'.
